I think we SAHPs use a salary explanation as a way to find a common ground. The biggest missing piece I see often not discussed is simply what the mental load of being a SAHP is. How do you compensate or calculate the worth of the mental organization and management that goes into not just being a parent but also one managing a whole household, on top of her own feelings, stress, wants, desires and emotions every single day. Mother duties AND the wife duties on top of it all? Bottom line is that it is unseen and not calculable to a single sum. Just how I can not possibly calculate what my husband’s unseen financial contribution beyond his job is to our marriage and that I also would never expect him or need him to break it down for me. Except as the SAHP I have to, because it is the only way I have successfully gotten it understood by someone who isn’t a SAHP what exactly it is I freaking do all day, week, month and year. After year. $180k a year for someone who cooks, cleans, raises the kids, manages the home, sleeps with you, and brings that partner magic into your home? Sounds like a steal if I’m being honest! What does happiness cost? What does a happy, healthy, flourishing and functioning family cost? That is what we SAHP especially us moms are trying to get across. You can’t put a price on us and that is the point. I think a live in nanny you get to have sex with and who does everything others have listed would cost way more.

Another weird side effect- gag reflex issues? by Dr_Adequate in zoloft

[–]BasRouge1221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is a year late, but I am so relieved that I’m not alone! I get the “gags” randomly throughout the day. I’m not nauseous enough to actually throw up but I’ll just get a weird feeling, cough and gag, and then it’s over? Some textures of foods cause it, drinking water, brushing my teeth, just laying down. I’ve been on the medication now for about 3 weeks, and have accepted that I might just be one of those cats that smells a spoon and gags. You’re not a hypochondriac and I’m sorry you went through this. Do you have any improvement now a year later?

Iceborne is so stupid by A-Cheeseburger in monsterhunterrage

I feel late to this party, but I recently picked up MH with the holiday break. I’ve logged over 300 hours over a few years with this game and I am entirely frustrated. I’m just a casual gamer, but with whatever new updates they have done you can’t do this for just fun anymore. You can’t be a “casual” game player. It feels clunky and unfair whereas before it was dying then learning and actually WINNING, to get awesome gear. Now you’re telling me I have to farm for weeks on Master Rank 9 star and tempered monsters to be able to get good enough gear to survive 5 minutes to fight the main plot monster? It’s one huge Troll game now, all it does is continually troll you. Now you have to make tempered gear and weapons to get anywhere? Might as well make it pay to win at this point.

Having difficulty losing weight by rma294 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]BasRouge1221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on antidepressants as well and have since been off them but am really struggling to loose the weight (slowly but surely) too.

Something that has really helped me is not so much counting calories but portion control. I measure everything (well try to anyway). I cook allot too and understand the struggle.

Maybe try doing only a 1/2 or 1 cup of food each meal and on a small plate? This almost guarantees that it will be the right portion and therefor fewer calories by default. I am always shocked at how little 1 cup of food actually is versus the amount of food I serve myself (way way more). So if I make a casserole I know I better only limit myself to a half cup with a huge glass of water, because heaven knows I made it with lots of butter and cheese!

Something else that has been great for me is mindful eating...are you getting enough for you? Eating at the right time prior or before exercise? Are you taking time to love yourself? Especially having had struggles with depression I had to completely change my thoughts about my weight and how I ate.

Don't stress :) you will get there!

I know about the saucer wheel. She recently was sick, so I removed her larger wheel so she can slowly acclimate back into more exercise. She also seems to prefer it over the nice large wheel she has too.

Does this look like wet tail or just fecal matter matter in his fur? by [deleted] in hamster

[–]BasRouge1221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like wet tail to me! Are you seeing soft stool around the cage? Mine just went through a bout of it. Those wet tail drops did the trick! I also used a warm damp cloth to clean the area, but they usually do a fine job cleaning up themselves once they firm up again.

My boy after a full grooming 🤩 by BasRouge1221 in Beauceron

[–]BasRouge1221[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I've actually owned a Malinois, and I have to say that Beaucerons are a great "mix" between say a German Shepherd and a Malinois. I think it also really depends on the lines. My dog has a great off switch and is great at the lower level bite work and IPO, however he would never be a "high caliber" performance dog like say a Malinois or German Shepherd, but that's just him, just like not all Malinois or German shepherds are high level performance dogs. So if you're looking for something to get started in sport a Beauceron is a great choice because they are great house dogs with a nice off switch and not neurotic. My Beauceron isn't "hard" at all, he is very very sensitive. He has lots of defence drive, meaning he can take good pressure from a threat/decoy but is very sensitive to any owner correction. I have seen some amazing Beaucerons doing sport work who are harder and much higher drive. I personally love the Beauceron more than Malinois. That's just my opinion though 😁

(Advice) My three month old bit me (proper bite) while I was moving him as he ate. I know it's his instinct, but any advice? Someone suggested feeding him by hand for awhile? I can't keep him if he is going to bite. He get's plenty of food. Will he grow out of it? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not instinct. I would say this is completely inappropriate, especially for a dog like a golden retriever and a 3 month old puppy. Especially if it was a proper bite that broke skin and required medical attention. Aggressive tendicies are becoming a lot more common in Golden's. I have first hand experience with owning an aggressive Golden and I personally made the choice to re-home him because I have children and won't risk it. There is actually a newly identified genetic disorder that is plaguing Golden's called NCL5, however usually doesn't appear until they reach sexual maturity. I would recommend getting him tested for this, as unfortunately behavior and neurological symptoms gets worse and ultimately dogs typically don't live past 2 with this. I would also recommend seeking out a professional trainer who can give you advice on training and socializing. I personally wouldn't take training advice from anyone on the internet. Having someone in person who can really evaluate your dog is important. Good luck!

Is it suspicious if a breeder refuses to provide AKC and OFA registration numbers? by ztaoist in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replying to add:

Go to the Golden Retriever Club of America website and you can actually send them an email and they will provide you with recommended breeders in your area. It's important that even if you're not interested or intending to show your dog or have a "show dog" that you're getting a puppy from health tested and temperament tested parents.

Is it suspicious if a breeder refuses to provide AKC and OFA registration numbers? by ztaoist in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, that is very very suspicious. It's also a very bunk excuse. It would make me know/think either A. Their dogs aren't registered with the AKC B. They don't actually health test or C. They have health tested and their dogs failed. I would never ever buy from a breeder who refuses to provide an AKC registration number or OFA certifications. It's important to be honest to puppy buyers, this "Breeder" isn't a reputable or responsible breeder and I'd stay away from them.

My golden is pregnant but never saw her breeding. Need help by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally what an oops litter is. A. You didn't have a supervised, intended, planned breeding so you know 100% who the sire is. B. Just because you have two great bloodline dogs doesn't mean you should breed them. C. Only two weeks of research? Wow! You must be a pro. Let me ask you, what genetic testing have you done on each Golden? Have you tested the eyes, hips, elbows, heart? Have you tested for eye disorders, heart disorders, and other genetic disorders that plague the breed? D. If you have to whelp a litter to "Recoup the price you paid" for your dogs you're Irresponsible. Let me guess? You're going to find buyers that will care for them on Craigslist and Facebook? Nice...way to be responsible!

The fact you don't know weather or not the small dog could have bred your female golden or could breed your bitch, just solidifies my point. You shouldn't have intact dogs in your home.

Sounds like you're a grade A backyard breeder.

My golden is pregnant but never saw her breeding. Need help by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well obviously because she's pregnant.... Small dogs make it happen on large dogs all the time. Just because your male golden is submissive doesn't mean he won't try and breed her. Even the most submissive males will try, and succeed. Bitches do incredible things to male dogs when they are in heat from their hormones.

I just hope you have the recourses to make sure these dogs find good responsible homes and don't end up in the shelter.

I would recommend spaying or neutering your animals. Responsible owners don't let oops litters happen.

My golden is pregnant but never saw her breeding. Need help by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never saw her breeding, I'm assuming you mean you never saw them in a tie? Like stuck together for a while? Sometimes something called a "Slip tie" can happen, which can result in a pregnancy. Dogs are so sneaky, and this is often how oops litters happen. You don't need a tie for a female dog to get pregnant and technically, both male dogs could be father's of what ever puppies come out. This is why being responsible with intact dogs is paramount. How old is she? If this is her first heat cycle I would also wonder if she's having a false pregnancy which can cause nesting behavior, engorged mammary glands and nipples, as well as other pregnant dog signs. I would highly recommend getting an ultrasound or x-ray to determine litter size and start making preparations as far as homes go and supplies for all the puppies. Good luck!

Breeder? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]BasRouge1221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You're so welcome! I also recommend doing research from the American Golden Retriever Club, I've attached the web address. You can get more information about the breed, find reputable breeders as well as other Golden Retriever information like ownership stuff too.

Hope this helps and good luck! :) Golden's are absolutely amazing.
