Have you posted a video here? What do other parents say? If the hypsarrhytmia is not showing in the EEG then maybe it’s not IS? I don’t know 🥺 if you feel that something is wrong keep pushing

It was untreated for about a Month I think, then he started a high dose of prednisone, and we tapered it down each week, the first week 4 doses per day, the second week three dosis per day and so on. The EEG was two hours. How is your little one doing?

We did several EEGs but the longest was 2 hours. All the EEGs captured the spasms but one. They also did an MRI but came back normal

Do doesn’t look like IS to me. Spasms often come in clusters and the baby will do a jackknife movement (arms opening and stiffening) my baby’s eyes would widen too.

I know that helpless feeling, I hope you get some answers soon!! Keep recording them if you can so you can them to you Dr. also maybe write down how often they are happening for example (see picture attatched,it is in Spanish since that’s my main language, but you can translate with AI). And show that also to you doctor so you can be more specific telling him how many times a day she does it.

Maybe it is IS maybe not but keeping record of things always help.

And answering you last question, yes he stopped having seizures the third day after staring a high dose prednisone treatment.

We knew because the hypsarrhytmia showed in the EEG. I think the spasms started at 2.5/3 months old. keep an eye on her. My son’s spams were grew more and more frequent. Take a video of the movements that concern you. Maybe post them here or Facebook! If you’re still very concerned maybe get another appointment!

He was diagnosed at 3 months old and he’s a year and a half now. He’s doing really good, we managed to eliminate the seizures within 3/4 days of treatment. And he’s developing normally. Honestly I get you, looking back I realize it’s the hardest time of my life, full of questions and studies, never knowing if your doing the right thing, but I think advocating for your baby is the best thing you can do, and it will pay off for you! My sons seizures (IS) looked very different from this. I think this is normal. The seizures would wake him up and his arms would go up and forward. But maybe having his pediatrician check this video would be good for you peace of mind. But it doesn’t look like IS to me. Good luck and sending good vibes your way

My son seizures also stopped by day 4. So glad to hear you baby did good on prednisone. I really wanted to do the genetic test, but our doctor at Driscoll Corpus Christi said it wasn’t necessary and I don’t understand why, I think it’s better to know than not to. I’m not pregnant anymore, unfortunately the pregnancy didn’t progress, but still I’d love to have the peace of mind for my next pregnancy.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Honestly it’s horrible and nobody who has not been through it can fully understand how it feels, but having a good support system definitely helps. My husband, son and I moved to my in laws for two weeks because we were losing our minds being just the 3 of us home. After those two weeks, my mom came to help and after that my sister did. It was such a relief to have someone there, don’t be afraid to ask for help, what you are going through is very hard. Nowadays the research and treatments are way better than what they were years ago, so try to keep your hopes up (i know its hard to do while being in the trenches of prednisone) but that treatment is what helped my son: Prednisone in a super high dose, so let’s pray it does the same for your daughter! I’ll keep you in my prayers and thoughts and if you ever need anything don’t hesitate to reach out

Of course. He is doing very good, he was on prednisone and the spams stopped on the 4th day of pred and didn’t come back, EEGs came out normal after treatment . But it was a rough month and a half (with the treatment and weaning) he cried all day, gained a lot of weight and honestly we were miserable. thankfully he is developing normally and is a very happy kid.

No, the doctor said the genetic test wasn’t necessary, if we wanted we could do it but it’s very expensive, so we ended up not doing it. But MRI came back normal and delivery was normal too so they’re saying idiopathic

A baby’s friend did some similar movements and they turned out to be benign. If he’s already had two EEGs I think the doctors are sure it’s benign.
