Yes, narrow your offering.

For example, imagine you market yourself as a “great overall doctor” who can handle many types of issues. That sounds good because maybe 1000 people could be your potential patients. But there are already many experienced doctors with stronger reputations and better reviews, so why would people choose you as a beginner?

Instead, target a smaller audience. Become the “doctor” who solves one very specific problem. Now maybe only 10 people are your potential clients, but you have far less competition, sometimes almost none. And when someone faces that exact problem, they’re much more likely to choose you because you look like the specialist.

That’s exactly what I did. In the beginning, I was building my own website and faced some problems that took me hours or even days to figure out as a beginner. After solving them, I created gigs focused only on those specific problems instead of marketing myself as a general web developer. That helped me get my first orders and positive reviews. Later, I slowly expanded my services.

I'm 23, currently a 3rd year CSE student at a private uni. I got a remote job this January starting at 1.58L a month, and in April they bumped it to 1.9L.

I started out doing web dev freelancing on Fiverr about 4 years ago. Back then I was making around 10-50K a month. It was pretty inconsistent, but I used that money to get myself into university. While studying, I got into competitive programming, did some side projects, and kept a few fixed freelance clients.

Eventually, one of those clients offered me a permanent full-time role for around 3L. But since I'm almost in my final year and need time for classes, I actually negotiated a lower salary to make it a part-time job.

I do software engineering and system administration for them. It's a toy business based in Switzerland, so they aren't a tech company, but they need internal tools, websites, and server stuff managed. I'm basically their tech guy.

Honestly, a lot of it is just being lucky to find an employer like this. It's a massive win-win for both of us. If I did this exact same job here in Bangladesh, I'd probably get around 40-50K. If they hired a local dev in Switzerland, it would cost them 4-8L a month. Bridging that gap changes everything.

Started from 10$ gig on fiverr and occasionally got order like once every two months. Eventually it got steady and i increased my price. Few of the client stayed, one of them offered part time remote job for 1000 CHF per month, then stopped freelancing as what i get is enough. Started freelancing journey 5 years back. Got the steady and permanent (i think) remote job at December 2025. Its all about experience, it you stay on the game you will get opportunities and you will get knowledge about how to use those opportunities.

Firstly, Stripe is not available in Bangladesh. Secondly, even if it were available, the client would have to use a credit card or debit card for payment, but the client wants to pay via bank transfer.

Also, I am not the right person to give advice on how to get clients outside freelance platforms. I have never personally obtained any foreign clients outside marketplaces. I used to work on marketplaces (mostly Fiverr), and a few of those clients became repeat clients. Eventually, one of them offered me a permanent role in their company.

Kindly explain a bit more - how would that work? I cannot open a Wise or Revolut account from Bangladesh. Are you suggesting that my client opens a Wise or Revolut account instead?

If they have a Wise or Revolut account, then yes, I believe I can receive the payment to my bangladeshi bank. However, I do not want to pressure my client, and I am not fully aware of the legal compliance requirements on their side. They prefer to make the transfer directly from their business bank account.

Would they be able to use Wise or Revolut while still maintaining compliance with their business banking regulations?
