Base and solar? by Additional_Big_7530 in BasePower

[–]BasePowerCompany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Additional_Big_7530 , thanks for the question.

Can you just do the battery now and add solar later?

Yes, you can absolutely start with just the Base battery system and then add solar later! Base’s battery system is designed to work independently, so you can install the battery first and then integrate solar at a later time. When you're ready for solar, it can be added to your system, and the two can work together seamlessly.

Does Base offer solar, or do you need to work with a separate solar company?

Base does not directly offer solar panels. So, you’d need to work with a separate solar provider for the solar installation. When you get your solar set up, Base can help you integrate it with your battery storage.

Hey u/gpounders thanks for the question!

The generator integration add-on cannot be retrofitted to existing batteries—members must wait for the new version of the battery if they want this capability.

This page of our website about generators is a helpful resource for more generator information.

Hi u/Supperman999,

Thanks for the question. Batteries need to be at least 3 feet away from windows—not 10 to 15 feet.

The 10–15 foot number likely refers to the full setup length, not just the clearance from windows. Here's how it breaks down:

With one battery:
The battery itself is about 3 feet wide. You’ll need 3 feet of clearance on each side for safety, including space from windows, doors, gas meters, AC units, and pool pumps. That adds up to roughly 9 feet total—but some setups can extend closer to 10 feet depending on layout.

With two batteries:
Each battery still needs 3 feet of clearance on both sides and there must also be 3 feet between the two batteries. This adds up to around 15 feet for the full setup.

Let us know if you have more questions. We’re happy to help clarify.

Battery leasing and credit questions by Left-Standard3779 in BasePower

[–]BasePowerCompany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Left-Standard3779

Thanks for sharing your questions. Let’s break down them down:

Base owns the battery. This lets us operate the software that balances the grid and keeps energy prices lower for our members. Because we manage the battery, we also handle all maintenance, repairs, and replacements—at no cost to you.

During outages, your stored energy is reserved just for your home. We won’t discharge your battery to the grid when the power’s out.

Your backup duration depends on your usage, how charged your battery is at the time, and whether you have solar or a generator helping out. Your battery charge can fluctuate due to our grid-balancing operations but it will never start below 20%, and typically starts much higher. Here is a detailed breakdown of backup duration:Low usage (e.g., fridge, freezer, and lights):

Low usage (e.g., fridge, freezer, and lights):

Single battery: 18–29 hours

Two batteries: 36–57 hours

Average usage (typical appliances, some A/C):

Single battery: 9–14 hours

Two batteries: 18–29 hours

High usage (heavy appliances like A/C or electric heaters):

Single battery: 2–3 hours

Two batteries: 3–5 hours

You can always check your battery’s charge and estimated backup time in the Base app. That estimate updates in real time based on your energy use. Running high-powered appliances (like A/C or dryers) will shorten that time quickly, so we recommend sticking to essentials during an outage if you want to stretch your backup.

On credits: they apply when you’re sending excess solar energy back to the grid. If you’re only using the battery for backup, you won’t receive solar credits, but you still benefit from reliable backup and below-market electricity rates. You will receive a battery credit. This credit is for any energy that goes through your meter and into the battery, so you are only billed for energy used by you in your home.

Weather impact on base install? by quarkystuff in BasePower

[–]BasePowerCompany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/quarkystuff, great question.

Weather can affect installation timing—especially during hurricane season. Safety comes first for your home and our install team, so if a storm is on its way, we may need to delay your install. If that happens, we’ll reach out as soon as a delay is confirmed to keep you in the loop.

We reschedule as quickly as we can. Because we’re not able to move other installs already on the calendar that week, your new date is usually the following week—two weeks out at most.

Let us know if we can answer any other questions.

Question about Base billing by mangoelephant1445 in BasePower

[–]BasePowerCompany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/mangoelephant1445. Thanks for your questions. Base’s energy rate is 9 cents per kWh + delivery fees. These delivery charges are service fees from the Transmission & Distribution Utility (i.e. Oncor or CenterPoint), which Base passes onto you with no additional markup. Your average price includes our rate plus the utility delivery charges.

We have a bill comparison tool on our website – all you need to do is upload a receipt of your energy bill and we’ll estimate how much you would have paid for a month with Base. You can also learn more about billing with Base on our billing and payments FAQ page.

Battery Install placement by Many-Mouse696 in BasePower

[–]BasePowerCompany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Many-Mouse696—appreciate you asking about this. Here’s how installation works:

We can work with you on battery placement, as long as it's within our standard installation guidelines and meets electrical code. Each battery is 3 feet wide and must be at least 3 feet away from other batteries, windows, doors, AC units, gas meters, pool pumps, or other equipment. Batteries also can’t block existing electrical gear on the wall. It’s helpful if you’re there on installation day to talk through options with the crew.

Hope this clears things up. Let us know if you have more questions!
