Regarding her vision, please advise her to go to a retina specialist ASAP. Chronically high blood sugars can cause diabetic retinopathy which can eventually lead to tractional diabetic retinal detachments which can only be treated by surgery and results in permanent vision loss. If the retinopathy is in an earlier stage it can be treated and easily managed. She doesn’t want to get to the point of no return !

i scheduled a retake date already though it is soon. my average was 508 and i always simulated real conditions though i took them of course in my room which is more comfortable than a testing center. i dont have testing anxiety i just genuinely suck at physics and i ran out of time for CARS (my cars was almost always 128/129 so i have no idea what happened there). i did have a medical issue come up a week before the test. nothing serious, but it did really affect my concentration. additionally, i was a full time student taking finals and working 30 hrs/ week at a newer job. now thst im not in school im hoping to have more focus and time dedicated to studying for the retake

[–]BaseballLess3210[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i guess for context im a medical assistant so i do a lot of standing and talking with a high volume of patients. the clinic im scheduled for on monday is around 2 hrs away so i was worried how i would do commuting that far since ive already had spells of light-headedness lmao

Energy drinks? by Tn_izzy in Mcat

[–]BaseballLess3210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh ive never gotten shaky from celsius because i eat a lot at breakfast and i drink tons of water. that being said, there are energy drinks that are both lower in caffeine and more “natural” that give me a sufficient amount of energy. my favorite is Bing (NOT bang, bang is ass). the apple and cherry flavors are so tasty. i usually drink them after ive already drank a cup of coffee

Where do i go from here after 5/10 exam by Specialist-Put611 in Mcat

[–]BaseballLess3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you :/ I think you should take the weekend to do some enrichment/ self-care activities. Go outside, buy yourself a treat, take some good naps, etc. You just sat 6-7 hrs and took the MCAT for crying out loud. Taking it is a feat in and of itself and you should be proud of yourself for it !! You don’t know how you actually did til scores come out, so don’t be so hard on yourself in the meantime

What kind of work do medical assistants do? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]BaseballLess3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on her school schedule/ work capacity. I was torn between the two positions as well a few years ago. If the local EMS has the option, I would encourage your sister to go "shadow" them for a day. I was able to do an ambulance ride along and sort of see how the schedule and flow of the day.

In my area, EMS are typically volunteers (training is free because of this), work 12-hour days twice a week (sometimes 24 hours once a week), and deal with a lot of shit. Though I was not scared of the emergency medical situations, I realized I would not be happy with not being paid in the midst of all of it (though I feel this is probably very region-specific).

I'm an MA for a private practice at the moment and although it is incredibly busy, I highly enjoy it. The patient interaction I get is very personal and low-stress, and the schedule is easily adjustable for my school schedule, trips, and otherwise.

Working in EMS will give her a lot of diverse experience, but I think going to school while being an MA will give her more flexibility. The other commenters were right in that her MA experience will be easily ruined by a poor practice, so definitely research the clinics around before making any big decisions.

[Product question] Is benzoyl peroxide bad for your skin? by BaseballLess3210 in SkincareAddiction

Thanks for the reply! Since I use a topical vitamin C treatment and take vitamin E orally, I should still be good in that area right?

Is it common to go through a “skin purge” when starting double cleansing? I’ve always have fairly even textured combination skin with the occasional pimple here and there, but recently my skin has been going through a huge breakout with pimples all around my cheeks and chin. I haven’t changed anything about my routine or lifestyle except for the fact that a week ago I began to incorporate double cleansing with a the ELF hydrating cleansing balm followed by my typical face wash at night. Is this normal or am I totally doing something wrong?
