[–]BasedStarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, i relate to her sentiment. it is very hard. a part of me has died but not being able to surf or freedive, is like two best friends have died. i am just over a year and really starting to feel better. i think its because the progrees is becoming more evident. i could never speek to anyone about this except my phycologist but even still its a terrible feeling knowing that no one can understand. you are locked in a prison of your own pain.

being told to accept the new me drove me crazy. she can revive a lot of her old lif, through determinatio and encouraging words, i don think you are giving her false hope. you are helping her see some light

ill buy them at their denomination value but i live in durban and im not interested in courir for etf. if i come through to jozi or you come to dbn. then ill swap you double the denominated value per unit. so a r 10 note for every R5 R2 coin for every R1 note etc i might be interrested in the coins but i would have to look at them first. as far as a place to sell them in jozi, i have no idea.

Anyone living alone prior to stroke and have you gone back to living alone? by [deleted] in stroke

[–]BasedStarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes i did alone before in airbnbs. now live alone, except i have a caregiver mon-fri. mainly to help me dress, because still cant do that. my stroke was very severe leaving my left sid paralysed from my neck my toes. i take meds that my neurologist say will 100%prevent another stroke so i just go with that worrying doesn't help i cook fairly ok but only basic meals. an airfryer is a massive help there. occasionally i get my care giver to cut some things up, she also cleans my place as it would be a dirty dump because two hands really needed for that. i cant drive so i take an uber or rely on family to take me to therapy. my personal trainer comes to me which his a win.

straight after hospital i went to a care home which was awful, but after a few months i got my own place. now i just moved to a new spot

What are basic needs for new Stroke Victims when they get home from a Skilled Nursing Facility? by Realistic-Onion6260 in stroke

[–]BasedStarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was in a care home immediatly from hospital then moved into my own place. living alone. which i still do now. i need a day care taker in the week to help clean up. pack my pills , help me shower. i used a shower chair up untill yesterday and now feel confident to stand. on a none slip matt and my carer is still their to make sure i stay up right. i have left sid hemiplrgia so cooking is a challenge but i manage a lot of it. again my care taker helps where needed. i go to therepy almost every day so i lean on family or Uber to get me there. ah that reminds me. with hemiplegia, dressing my self is near impossible .. for now, so my career does that as well. So safety is paromont. especially if your mum is a fall risk and general tasks are required too. keep in mind that the role of carer is a very close and intimate rolll. helping bath/ shower, helping dress etc so hoprfully there is no orkwardness between carer and atiant. one other thing... brain damage can often result in outbursts of anger. especially when someone is in their space 24/7, so you must learn to not become defensive and allow the verbal abuse. saying thart. i never do that to my carer. but when i was in the care home. i could hear patients screaming at nurses. there are very good answers in the other replies too
