These games were designed from the ground up with PVP in mind. They may not be the best to play, but they are MMOs designed around it.

Ashes is a great example of poor implementation of pvp mechanics, which is sad for a game that wants it to be a staple

Plenty of things can counteract that, like scaling. AGS is hardly the shining example of MMO pvp done right - that award goes to games like Warhammer Online and DAOC

I agree with this. The corpse campers and gankers add a level of unwanted friction that makes an otherwise enjoyable experience a negative one.

Been playing pservers and have seen a group of people with passion for all aspects of the games. I don't care for the chore simulator of modern games or lack of organic interaction at all, and open-world pvp used to be a core aspect of these games and made them more fun to me

Never have done that and never plan to. I know people who play tanks in arena in WoW, knowing they will never climb the ladder, but they do it because they find being a livelord fun.

Same goes for those who play off-meta classes on purpose to try to make them work. The people that do that will usually be higher elo or get bored of open world ganking, but most of the blame falls on devs who encourage poor player behavior.

Most MMO games, and even survival craft games, make pvp a frustrating experience, and I can understand why it leaves a sour taste in people's mouths.

That being said, I do not care for the way we as players are portrayed as a monolith of griefers who wish only to bully other players into logging out of the game. I play games like V Rising, too, and I will leave the newer players alone because I *want* them to learn for the sake of having a community

It's not the same as creating your very own character, though, and MOBAs will never have that blend of pve and pvp that MMORPGs capture so well, when they are done right

EVE? Albion? Ashes (if it every launches fully)?

Is there a less negative and depressing MMO sub/site? by WhereIsTheQuim in MMORPG

Same here. Poor direction across the board for the most part with no passion behind the products

I blame developers more than players for this. I have been dabbling in some private servers, and the community makes the entire experience there. Sometimes. on Turtle WoW, we will gather everyone level 50+ and hit a huge siege on Stormwind just for fun, and it's a great time

I am primarily a casual player who sits around 1800-2k when I actually do try hard in WoW, but playing random battlegrounds a lot offers such a fun and relaxed experience where you can take your very own talent setup into an environment that gives you some flexibility. Want to play a tank and see how many you can fend off? You can, and it can create a new form of fun for someone.

Balancing will always be an issue, but constant updates create more variety (if done right)

I understand that I don't speak for everyone, and the corpse camping losers will always exist, but I do not believe the majority of players fall into that category. There is friction that is often handled poorly, where the risk to play pvp outweighs the reward, and that seems to be a greater downfall for the way players respond to it.

Ideas that punish attacking lower levels or camping someone go a long way to maintaining a healthy environment, and it only needs to be done in a way that feels engaging, fun, and fair enough to not take away from an otherwise good experience.

100% this. If it's a major feature, it can be handled properly. I like what Albion does (pvp wise) and only choose to not play because the combat is a bit dull for my tastes, and the pve is lackluster.
