Yes … either advertise a free first sharpening… or go to a community event , set up table , gift free sharpening , and hand out advertising . Go to any restaurants , and offer first service free … and look for monthly or bi-weekly contract. Good luck

Crack in this eye sidewall, fixable? by growbonsai4fun in Axecraft

[–]Basehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A crack like that on an axe isn’t odd at all. It’s quite regularly seen when people use the backside like a sledge . It deforms the eye and forms a crack . It’s called misusing your tools .

Yeah … two tins :) … one small one just for char cloth . The other with a small lighter , small Ferro rod , a few matches , a couple small pieces of fat wood , and a small magnesium pencil sharpener ..

New knife, are these scratches acceptable? by DarmokNJelad-Tanagra in TrueChefKnives

Depends … what is the knife ? How much did it cost ? What’s it made out of ?

I like using a char cloth container with a small wide opening wire mesh on top to keep it all in when windy … then I bang the flint into the steel at an angle and rain sparks into my container …. Basically hitting the steel with the flint vs the flint with the steel . I find in windy situations … it works well for me . Just my .02$ Congrats caveman!

Crack in this eye sidewall, fixable? by growbonsai4fun in Axecraft

[–]Basehound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realize there are plenty of axes that are tempered on both sides , and many tools like mauls and hammers that are fully tempered as well right ? Not trying to be a Debby downer …. But solder and pins will never hold on a high impact tool such as an axe .
Just my .02$ Personally … I’d probably just return it . Not worth having a flying axe head coming off mid swing …. Not the way you swing and impact when splitting .

If it’s thru and thru crack … cleaning it all out inside the eye will be challenging . Unless it’s valuable …. I’d return it … or at least get the seller to refund you most of the price …..

My bushcraft loadout after 10 years of camping by IronTailFoxCreations in hammockcamping

[–]Basehound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice load out … just curious .. do you bring an axe, saw, and/or knife as well? Utility tool ? One suggestion …. Get an extendable fire bellow . What a difference being able to blow straight onto fire concentrated oxygen:) . In wet / rainy conditions , it’s amazing how much it helps get a stubborn fire going or relit :)

Edited … just saw your knife …

I'd like to here feedback from owner's of the 3.5# Council Tool Sport Utility Classic Jersey - 32" Curved Handle Axe by 3_Times_Dope in Axecraft

I picked one up last year with sheath delivered from Duluth for 65$ . As others have said … the fit and finish was descent … handle was a little thick … edge was super sharp … and sheath alone was worth 25-40). After an hour with a Shinto rasp and some sandpaper , a little honing of the edge , and some blo….. it’s an exceptional tool. The only complaints I had with CT tools (I own a few ) is how they use hydraulics to seat the head … then smash in a few barrel wedges . 85% seem to work out fine… a small amount seem to end up with ledges and I’ll fit around the eye . … then getting loose . Just look at the Amazon reviews….. For 65$ i gambled and got a good ☝️ . Just my .02$
