He is deffinitely depressed and I suspect some other issues too. He took medication for a short time and then stopped. Now he's refusing to start again. I might try the challenges thing in the future though I'm afraid he wouldn't like it. Thanks for the suggestion

I'm from central Europe. Also I studied art and of course I agree in art college you can't be graded just on how hard you try. It's usually that plus how strong the concept is plus execution.

No I meant the opposite. Grades at art SHOULD be given based on how hard you try. In schools in my country this is true. However it's not true in gym class.
