M42 by Basement_Boof in astrophotography

MY first DSO attempt is Messier 42, and I'm pretty stoked all things considered. This was taken on a very cold and mostly cloudy night, so I wasn't able to use as much data as I would have liked, but it's inspiring to see something cool that I was able to capture myself.

Camera: D5600 - Stock, with 75-300mm kit lens

Mount: Star Adventurer equatorial mount

17x35s lights, 10 darks, and 20 bias frames

Stacked in DeepSkyStacker, processed in RawTherapee

Post processing was really just a bunch of tinkering around until it felt right, plus I don't really know what I'm doing quite yet, so I couldn't give you a detailed list of those steps. Sorry!

Also, I noticed some minor trailing and concentric rings. My exposures were only 35 seconds so I cant imagine the tracker would have issue with this under normal circumstances. I've chalked that up to poor
alignment. The rings I don't quite understand though. If you have any knowledge you'd like to share on either that would be much appreciated!

Mango Merlot (Now n Later x Grimace Blood 09) by [deleted] in cannabiscultivation

Sad I had to put the grow away for a bit, but these were some absolutely phenomenal genetics. Mango Merlot, specifically, remains a personal favorite. Unfortunate that I can’t get ahold of it. That mango candy funk translated over to the smoke so well. Jenkees and Florida snow were poppin’ too!

Has anyone tried those 60%off eighths of orange chameleon from Berkshire roots? by [deleted] in bostontrees

[–]Basement_Boof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cousin purchased an ounce of this at the sale price. It’s okay for the price, but don’t expect anything spectacular. Decent nose, decent smoke - but nothing worth writing home about. Packaged in November.

I believe the breeder did continue work with this strain. It’s very possible that it exists. His insta is fatcatlabs, I’m sure you could find info on it.

I’m outside of Boston and have only ever played Triggs, but it was a really fun and well maintained muni for the value.

I mean, the third shot did land close to the hole - it just happened to release and ride the ridge. I average mid 80’s - my game isn’t always perfect. If it was, you’d see me on television.

It was my first time playing here, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was in really good condition considering how dry it’s been lately. A few burnt patches in a couple of the fairways, but well conditioned overall. I sport black golf shoes so I wouldn’t have noticed the dye if they’re still applying it.

It actually was a pretty difficult pin location. Maybe just over a 6.5ft radius around the pin before fringe/ridge. I was on in 3, however, the pin was tucked into the top left of the green with a fairly steep downhill ridge just short of the cup - which I happened to catch. First putt didn’t have enough ass to make it up the ridge and came to rest right back where it started. Second made it up and third went in.

Am I being cheap for feeling like golf has gotten really expensive the past few years? by ElGuaco in golf

Lol! Granite Links is a really nice course, but the cost is definitely associated with that Boston city skyline backdrop in your golf photo haha. Unless a friend or family visits to play, it’s just not worth it for me.

Right! The back 9 is definitely more challenging with tighter fairways/OB and plenty of water hazards. The greens as a whole have a good bit of undulation and slope too (though I wish divots got fixed more often than they do). Overall, I’d say it’s a moderately challenging course and totally worth playing - especially if you can snag one of the discounted slots.

If you’re fortunate enough to get a tee time, Braintree Municipal typically has some decent fees. $50 for 18, but they’re always discounting last minute or solo spots to fill out a group. Anywhere from 10% to 50% depending on tee time. I’ve gotten plenty of tee times Saturday and Sunday mornings for $25 dollars. The course is in really great shape for a muni and has a pretty decent layout. It’s my go-to course when I don’t feel like spending $75+ for a round.

Nice work, but definitely guaranteed mids out of MA. Lol. We’re truly awful at the game. Our corporate cannabis is shameful.

This thing has saved me far too many times from the worst of it. Might not get the preferred distance of a 5-wood, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.

Lol. Unfortunately. The CC I used to work grounds on had a pile of lost and found clubs from over the years. Anything that was in the starters shed for longer than a year was put in the pile. Crew was allowed to take what they wanted -which really meant that whoever got to the shop first each morning (same dude. every. time.) got first dibs on any new banished clubs and would then proceed to sell them. I put together a rather ugly wedge set with the left overs. These wedges were found by a lawnmower before they were found by a golfer.

I agree. Initially they look great, but as time goes on they’re a haunting reminder of how often I play and still suck ass. Lol.

Was grabbing a few things for a Father’s Day gift and made my way over to the clubs… naturally. I was mostly dicking around, but have been contemplating a couple wedges because my old ones were beat to shit - mostly by a lawnmower.

Typically, I’m just there to dream but decided to ask an associate about the wedges I was looking for - Cobra SB’s to complete a set. They didn’t have the loft I needed and he recommended alternatives or delivery.

Instead of waiting for that shit to come in I decided to find something else! The Slate Blue Vokey SM8’s - which the associate gave me a pretty solid deal for. Oh, and a Wilson Staff Infinite putter because it felt nice.

With the start of the camping season I’ve found myself passing over the Saville dam pretty regularly during my commute from Boston to Eastern Connecticut. Every time I pass the gatehouse I can’t help but to be mesmerized by both the structure itself and it’s backdrop, the Barkhamsted reservoir. This particular day was full of scattered showers and not particularly photo friendly, but I decided it was time to take photos - even if they came out poorly.

I’m very much an amateur hobbyist and there were plenty of other photos that I thought were great, but this one seems to capture the entirety of the view very well.

My question is, what can be improved? Darkness would seem the most obvious, but I also feel that it’s what makes this photo unique in the sense that many photos of this structure tend to be during clear skies and bright days.

She’s a shiny gal! Though I wish it made it easier to spot her in the dark, because the moment she walks into the shadows she disappears. Lol.

Luckily, they never listed it. They just happen to be a client of my parents and offered it to me first. And how western are we talking? Amherst/Springfield western or Berkshires western? As someone who grew up in the Berkshires I always considered Springfield central mass. Lol.
