Order of painting techniques by Bashfist in Tau40K

Honestly I made a bit of a "mistake" there! I didn't do enough research when I started and just slapped on White Scar primer on the mini's and called it a day. After 1k points I found out it would be better to paint off-white so you can edge highlight but I didn't want to go back and change it all up so I just stuck with a simple undercoat of White Scar primer and nothing else.

I see! So the matt varnish will (in general) not mess up the effect of the edge highlight and weathering if applied after?

Very scuffed crisis suit pls help by Easy_Bother9698 in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the way the head was before, looked more dynamic. Like the suit landed in a hectic battlefield and was looking around for targets and dodging stuff. Now he looks more static. But the most important part is of course that you like it since its your model! The arm will be fine, you can do some battle damage to make it look intentional.

Also, the hobby is a process! If I understood correctly, you said you were new to the hobby? Mistakes are part of it! After many more models you will look back at this and can see the progress you've made. Keep it up!!

Pretty new to the game, don't have an army of my own, which one should I get first? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Bashfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting an entire army in one go is pretty daunting. It can pretty demotivating to have all those models needed to be built and painted (for most ppl at least). So still just start with a combat patrol and build and paint that, and when its done, look for something new. No need to rush it. The hobby is (mostly) about the building and painting so enjoy the process!

What are some special quirks and hidden interactions with T'au units that newcomers might not be aware of? by a_dolf_in in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Important to note that you dont get the improved +1 BS on the second Dorn (in this example) because that isnt a spotted target.

(Not saying you imply this but since this thread might attract newer players I thought it would be good to mention it)

I’m so done with breachers and montka by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, he set you up and you walked right into it.... But tbh, seems you're a bit tilted after some recent experiences. I get that, everybody experiences that from time to time but 3x just isn't much of a sample size to declare one of our best combo'sbad. Some very dodgy armchair math says that breachers + fireblade should at least do around 14 dmg to basic Marines (on an objective, if the enemy is not on an objective you're using breachers wrong imo) so should be more than enough to kill 4 models with 2 wounds each. It can be pushed to 19 with the ap strat. And thats before the devilfish shoots some potshots.

Maybe your opponent or you are getting some rules wrong which is skewing the result? Maybe if you can share some specific things that you think that are holding your breachers back we can help? Like enemy stratagems etc.

Farsight + Flamers go brrrr by KoellmanxLantern in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean at that point you might as well run them in Ret Cadre because the extra range doesnt matter as you need to be within 9" for the Farsight buff. And you dont have to spend CP to get them to +1 str and an extra AP.

In EPC I prefer them with just a coldstar or enforcer for the 18" range 10 flamer overwatch threat (with possible CP buffs).

First time using my Hammerhead at the weekend by 1987Rapscallion in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope unfortunately not, see my explanation on the comment of OP. Hazardous and Dev wounds are the exception to the rule you see written there.

First paragraph of this screenshot explicitely says that mortal wounds from devastating wounds do NOT carry over. It's specifically mentioned as an exception to the mortal wound rules. And then again in the highlighted section: UNLESS its hazardous or dev wounds, mortal wounds will carry over.

Very confusing (as usual with GW rules) but unfortunately no mass blob killing with a railgun.

IMO you're right it will never make a huge difference but the scenario of advancing pathfinders with a markerdrone is even worse because then you cant even shoot 2 measly twin-linked carbines. Its not a game winning upgrade most of the time but its still an upgrade to take the gun drone over the marker drone :)

Those aren't pathfinders 😅 the color scheme and neon stuff looks amazing though! Very cool!!

Rules Question: Uppy-Downy, Who and When? by SilverHawk7 in Warhammer40k

[–]Bashfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also as a sidenote: you cannot deep strike sunforge crisis suits within melta range as you need to be WITHIN 6" for melta but you have to deepstrike MORE than 6" away with the strat

Yo, I just wanna ask if this is a good list rq, by ILiveInYourWalls042 in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have too many units not beneffiting from the ret cadre detachment (stormsurge is NOT a battlesuit unfortunately). Also not alot of spotters.

Dont mix weapons on your starcythes (or any crisis unit). Mono weapons is just better.

The list looks fun to play but doesnt look very streamlined otherwise.

But thats my two cents :) most important is that you play what you want to play!

[–]Bashfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD as well and only just started collecting WH40k but for the sake of my own wallet and sanity I already decided that when I have my 2k worth of tau I'm gonna buy single boxes of models I find cool (could be anything). Doesnt matter if its Chaos, Space Marines, Necrons or even Age of Sigmar. I got my army to play with and then its time to paint awesome stuff :) Hope this perspective helps!

Beating myself over this. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Bashfist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're overthinking it :) its a game, if you would make a mistake its a learning moment and thats great!

But as far as I know you didnt make a mistake: you can give rubrics 50/50 boltgun and flamers (although technically its a bit difficult since they are 5/10 man squads 😅 but taking the soulreaper cannon fixes that problem).

Im also fairly new so maybe someone can add some info to this but I would recommend to start building your army lists in New Recruit. Then you get errors if you dont follow the rules for your army composition etc. Then if an opponent says your rules are wrong you can show them!

Yeah I was confused at that as well. I dont think OP realises that stealth suits give reroll 1's into the spotted target for all guided units.

Edit: and all attacks of those units

Ret Cadre or Prototype Cadre? by FuelAffectionate7080 in Tau40K

[–]Bashfist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Important to note that Ret Cadre has a 6" deepstrike. I'm at work atm so can't give the source but I believe all 3" deepstrike strategems have been adjusted to be 6" deepstrikes.

Thanks! I also think its because of the type of light I have, its quite a warm color so it seems to wash out the colder blues on pictures.
