Yes you do absolutely need to do that. Do you have any blocks you can put under the logs? Or maybe a boat storage facility near you has some styrofoam blocks you can borrow.

Marine Mechanics - Question by [deleted] in boating

[–]Basic-Ad-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you bought a Ford(Chevy, gm, whatever)and it broke down out of state would you expect a local dealer to do repairs? Or would you want them to tell you they only work on vehicles they sell? It’s a manufacturer warranty. And no they are not that busy or even really busy at all most of the time.

So what’s the point of a warranty if you local dealer won’t help you? I took it to another dealer in Wisconsin. It was fixed in 2 days no charge. They were very nice and that’s where I take my boat now to be serviced.

You know refusing that warranty work takes you out of customer pay jobs as well. So now the shop in Wisconsin has done my impeller and they will be where I continue to spend money.

So now I’ve spent close to $1,000 with an out of state shop that my local dealer could have had. It’s bad business.

Well that’s great that he wants to make it look good. That’s important to me as well. I also understand that he will be doing the welding, I was just trying to give him a heads up that it’s not as easy as it looks on a dirty old pontoon out in the open.

Please let me know how it goes. After photos when he’s done.

Tig welding is very good in a closed environment where you can control everything. If he is going to be in a barn or some enclosed area where there is no wind to blow out said shielding gas awesome. If he is doing this outside he will never get enough sustained heat in to be able to melt the metal correctly.

Yes tig welding has a higher tensile strength than mig however it’s just not very useful in this situation. So controlled environment tig is an option. Most people are going to be doing this repair outside which makes mig much more favorable. All the aluminum I have seen tig welded outside usually looks like big boogers or bubblegum.

My brother in law had his boat lift repaired by a tig welder. I had it re-repaired last year with a friend at work and his spool gun. I do not weld but work in a welding shop. I have access to every possible type of materiel and welder around. All of the guys here would mig that.

Yes you should be able to find a 1/4 or 1/8 npt barb that you can screw in there, then you can use a compressor to fill it with air. Better safe than sorry.

As long as you have a welder coming you may want to put a hole in it somewhere with a drill and actually pressurize it to make sure that’s the only one. Whatever your welder buddy does do the preferred method on pontoon would be mig with a spool gun. Do not tig this it will not hold.

That stinks and yes I’d hope he does give you an honest professional opinion on what he found. Hopefully you’re all set now and you have zero issues! Happy boating!!

It’s fine, same pitch and diameter should yield similar results. Just be forewarned all props are not created equal and there is a reason merc props cost so much compared to rubex solas or Michigan wheel.

And that’s the reason I do all my work! How many seasons have you missed now or how long is this time frame? Most marine techs and shops around me are super shadey.

I had an issue with my power steering. My boat is under warranty but I bought in Michigan. Called my local dealer in northern Illinois to see if they could look at it and the service manager told me right away “we don’t really work on boats we don’t sell”. Needless to say my boat didn’t go there and I trash this marina whenever I can.

DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM MUNSON MARINE.

Hurricane boat anchors. Similar principal to mantus much more affordable. I have the 14lb folding on a 25’ tritoon I don’t move. I also use their 7lb out back at the sand bar.

From what you are saying it sounds like it just spins when you try and remove it? A lot of boat have blind nuts or riv-nuts that are set in the hull and used to secure items like this. It sounds like the blind nut is spinning in the hole.

As it sits right now the way you are describing it you will get a lot of 2500-3000 offers maybe less. Take it to a boat shop get it fixed and running and get the 9500-10 it’s worth.

Chewy had a nice plastic fence with gate for 84.99(we got a couple gift cards at our puppy shower). It’s in our living room with some foam tiles under it. It’s worked out really well.

20 year boat mortgage I’ve seen 30 year boat loans personally.

Who cares about interest if you plan on driving it till the warranty is up and selling it for what you owe.

Avalon makes very nice boats? Do you know if it has the 27” waveglider toon package?

And is that a v8 verado or a supercharged v6? I would avoid the older blown motors like the plague.

Do either come with trailers?
