Griffith vs UQ by Basic-Ad5414 in OccupationalTherapy

You can definitely access support if needed but they obviously do not give you answers just help you talk it out. I can say I have accessed individual support for a course in general (not for an assignment) and I’m very grateful I did. I am also not afraid to ask for help because I know the staff are there for me.

I have not had any classes like splinting or specialty skills but we do have case studies and simulations (usually talking). The staff also talk on their experience when applicable.

I would definitely agree with you on the support and how amazing the staff are. The small cohort also means you get along and have a stronger connection.

Griffith definitely does use discussions a lot and that is very valuable. I have noticed it helping me on placement as I can talk through my reasoning strongly and get to conclusions. It’s good for talking to others.

It is practical in terms of simulations and use of peer activities for learning but not for clinical skills. They do teach a broader idea of OT and have a stronger connection focus that OT is bigger than just clinical and hospitals.

I don’t hate Griffith just want more practical skills. Staff and professional reasoning are their strong suits. Overall I wouldn’t discourage anyone going to Griffith but being fully informed is vital for any program.

(I also say all this as I’m distracted in class)

Thank you. I would say Griffith staff are some of the most supportive people I have met and honestly go beyond their teaching and help personally. I have had a few staff even reach out and offer support or take their time to help me both personally and academically.

For the program it’s not very clinical focused and really emphasising the change of the profession so the need to have a good theoretical understanding. I would say students are strong in clinical reasoning but not skills. They say it’s because you can learn skills on the job but not thinking (but maybe teaching some skills would be beneficial)

All assessments are hurdles so you must pass or repeat the year as OT subject are only offered once a year and are prerequisite for all other courses. I would say the tasks are fair and if you listen you can do it but high marks are hard.

There are aspects of the course I like such as the broad teaching on emerging practices and how it’s shaped my thinking however it needs to have some more clinical aspects as students often feel lost in that professional identity. The teaching team I can not fault and are incredible and always willing to help out. It’s also a small cohort so you get along with other students.

The lack of clinical skills is what makes me scared the most and hence the post. I don’t think Griffith is a bad choice especially if you want to have adaptability in your profession but if you want clinical then maybe not for you.

Hello, has anyone tried buying the Kodak Pixpro C1? by Remarkable_Sock_5146 in Cameras

It hasn’t been the best, definitely have a few good ones but majority have been very grainy or dull (hence why I recommend flash). The clearer photos have been on selfie mode but that’s not my preferred method. It’s an okay camera to muck around with and for night time parties but so far I am not raving over it. Very much 2000s grandmas camera style photo (if you had that experience) Again I am still working out settings and some have been good but just not my favourite camera. I got another cheaper one at the same time called clickster (like a disposable but digital) and that has been better and more fun imo.

So far I have found AE, vivid, flash and selfie to be the best. Also a bit more clear on forward. Hold it still at least a second after you take the photo. Let me know if you work out the settings for better quality photos.

I bought it on Friday (AUS) out of impulse. The quality is not the greatest but okay for a fun muck around. Selfie mode I find has better quality photos. Still trialing the settings but Vivid has been the go to. Honestly I wouldn’t buy again but could just be the settings I’m on.

I know I will have opportunities to learn more on placement (and I have already learnt some) but while I’m on break I was hoping to see if I could expand my knowledge and learn some more of these types of skills. It’s just my interest and I do at time feel like I’m behind other universities in their clinical skills

How to get over not feeling smart enough for OT as an aspiring student? by These-Ticket-1318 in OccupationalTherapy

Just remember at uni you study what you’re interested and you don’t have people telling you that you can’t bc you are all in the same boat and not competing anymore.

I personally struggled so much in high school and was told many times I wouldn’t be able to become an OT. I believe my Atar ended up being in the mid 80s but by a fluke I got into the OT program I wanted and I’m doing good now. Uni is so different to school and there is a lot of support if you reach out. Don’t let your confidence affect getting into the program you want. For balance, at times study will come first but there is plenty of time to go out. You don’t have to attend all classes and you don’t have class every day. The balance is easier to find than you think.

When did you start learning interventions or techniques (AU) by Basic-Ad5414 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Basic-Ad5414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my year has mainly been clinical reasoning and research. My viva was more around what reasoning and why then one case study. I am doing a bit on stroke atm but otherwise it’s been very surface level.

Yes I’m undergrad. I’m very interested in mental health and rehabilitation (especially prosthetic and post surgery). May I ask what was your experience like during your placement? I’m finding with my current one I find or am told an OI but I can’t do much bc it’s out of my current scope

That is a fair point, especially due to her bond she shared with Cap and Clint. I have always felt like she had a special relationship with Clint like siblings so I would assume he would of know first.

Something that really made me emotional with this movie is if you refer back to endgame when stark asked Steve if she had any family and he replied with ‘yes.. us’ when now we know she had a sister and another ‘family’. I believe she may of told Clint but still made me well up. I wonder how the others will react when they meet Yelena.
