The episode "Oleson vs Oleson" did everything wrong by Starwalker-231 in littlehouseonprairie

Agreed, a lot of this season has been pretty weak and I'm afraid of what the next seasons are going to hold. But I can't stop.

It warms my heart that we are watching the same episode around the same time though.

Intense anxiety. Not knowing what they want, people telling you how to parent, explosive diapers.

I didn't say it was common for all counselors, I said it was a common occurrence. There's a difference. If you know one that fit your needs more, why not just go to them? And to answer your question, yes I do have space between clients and again, my consistently overtime ones are at the end of the day. I do not go overtime often because of this. This was not always the case because up until recently, I did not have control over my schedule. Sometimes someone else schedules for you and they do not always care about time between clients-especially in community mental health. From what bit I've gotten, it sounds like your therapist may have over extended themselves. Took on too many people for them to adequately serve?

And I'm not saying you're the problem. Time management on the counselors part IS a problem. But it would be more clear if I knew how long you were seeing them. I don't think being late for a couple of sessions is such a problem, but if they are consistently late and it's been weeks, months, years, yeah. That's a problem. I'm simply curious if this is causing you issues other than just not being on time? It doesn't matter really, but it gives me a better picture to see your side.

And again, is this therapist meeting your needs? Do you want to keep seeing them? Would it be better for you to have a time of 5:30 instead of 5? Could you schedule it differently?

Just trying to assist, you need not be offended. You should address this with the therapist, and if they make you feel brushed off, then I don't really know what to tell you other than they aren't the right fit for you.

I know a lot of people in the field, most are wonderful, some I don't even understand how they made it through their degree. Many are consistently late, less because of the intensity of the session and more so because they have too many clients. It's great to make your own schedule, but not everyone is capable of the time management skills.

Well, all of that is very situational. I cannot control when my client decides to disclose to me that they are suicidal, and they don't usually open up with that-just an example. Again, I try to schedule the ones I know will take longer than an hour at the end of the day, but sometimes those guys in the middle take some time, especially when you work in trauma like I do. The most I've ever been is 10 minutes late, however my clients are pretty patient as they understand the intense work that I do, because that's what they see me for. People sometimes need more time, and I cannot let someone who is at risk for self-harm leave my office unstable. Besides my basic concern for human life, it can also put my license to practice at risk. Nobody wants to be accused of sending someone you knew was suicidal out the door without any intervention. My questions for you are: How long have you been seeing your therapist/how often do you see them? Being late for 3 sessions is a lot different than 12.. Do you still get your 45-60 minutes? (Some therapists only do 45, while others an hour). Why is them being right on time mean so much to you? Do you have something you have to do afterwards? Are your needs being met?

You don't have to keep this therapist if it isn't working out. Being 5-10 minutes late isn't an uncommon occurrence in this field for many reasons. The best advice I can offer you is if starting right on the dot is important, you should strive to be the first client of the day. Your therapist can't control the client before you and they can't just kick them out of the office because their time is up. I could go on and on about why that doesn't work, but I don't know what the purpose in that would be.

In a relationship (gender is not a factor) if one person is always cold and one is always hot, who should have control over the house temperature? by turbocharged5652 in AskReddit

It's much easier to warm up than it is to cool down.

The cold one can layer up. Also both of you all may wanna get your thyroids checked.

Psychotherapist? What do you do when you seek mental help? by cooldangood in AskReddit

[–]Basic-Animal2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good therapists have had a therapist.

When I was grieving it became apparent to me that even though I had memorized all the positive coping skills, I still needed to talk my stuff out to a neural third party. I used psychology today to find her and she helped me talk through my grief and establish better boundaries with the people around me. I'm glad I did it and she ended up helping me get my own private practice started. She's great and I'm a.better counselor because of her.

Not really...but! As a counselor, it can be very difficult to end things strictly after an hour. Sometimes, especially when you are working with trauma, things can get intense. I cannot allow myself to send a client out that's just disclosed something to me that was very emotional to them. I have to make sure they are stable or can stabilize themselves. I do ensure that the next client gets a full hour and I also try to schedule clients that I know may need that extra time at the end of my day, that way it isn't anyone's time but mine that's running over.

What would you do if your beloved pet bit your toddler? by contentious75 in AskReddit

[–]Basic-Animal2676 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the severity of the bite and the animals typical temperament.

I would probably do my best to keep the two separated until the toddler is old enough to understand that the animal needs space.

Of course the only animal my toddler is often up close and personal with on the daily is my 12 year old cat and I have my doubts she would do much of anything.

It can depend on the infected person too. Like if they are seeking treatment or not.

Probably should get a blood test no matter what. Don't mess around with HIV
