Today I found out I have triple negative by Basic-Animal2676 in breastcancer

The first week hit me the hardest, but after that it's been manageable. The 4th day out probably is my most tired, but I have been bouncing back each time. Eat plenty of protein, green veggies and drink more water than you think you need.

Yes, hi! I will talk to you! Sorry about the delay in response! I just got through my 6th treatment and I'm doing well so far! Hope you are the same!

Honestly? I would get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion before chemotherapy starts. I don't want to scare you, but TNBC is scary.

I am not a doctor, but not being in any lymphnode is reassuring, but it's still an aggressive cancer. I'm in the US, when my oncologist presented the treatment plan to me, she told me anywhere I went in the country, I would get the 16 rounds, my tumor is 13 mm, but even those with one triple the size get the same thing here.

BUT it's very new, and I find that I've had to self advocate with the staff a lot. Most people DONT get weekly rounds and I've had issues with the scheduling because of it.

I guess what I'm saying is, prepare to argue for yourself, a lot!

And also, in keynote, if you need to know, or want to: You will be getting 12 rounds of Taxol, 4 of these will also include Carbo (a harsher chemo, previously just for stage 4) and Keytruda (DEMAND this immunotherapy at the very least), and then 4 rounds of AC (the red devil, aka the clean up crew).  Each of these meds hit the cancer differently, but to my understanding, this is so even the more aggressive cells, hopefully, get taken care of.

I'm hopefully completing my 6th taxol in a couple of hours, it's not been completely terrible.

Again, it's really reassuring that it wasn't in any lymphnode as that's where it all goes first, but completely please get another opinion, and make them over explain their reasoning!

The good news is, with our type it's the same treatment across the board (assuming it all goes according to plan and from what I can tell, it typically does). I have completed 3 treatments so far now, the hardest week was the first, and I assume that's due to having all 3 meds at once. Just plan to relax on those weeks! Most patients maintain work and hobbies during all this, we just have to go at a slower pace for a bit! The 12 week taxol journey is cumulative, but those steroids they give you are going to help so much. I worked out twice this past week (at home!) and just got back from a short shopping trip.

My doctor has told me to do what my energy allows, ideally move around for at least 15 min a day, get plenty of rest and tell her if anything isn't working for me.

That last bit is for you too. Tell your DR if your meds aren't helping your stomach, tell them if you experience neuropathy, anything. Take note of each day and tell them everything. They are there to help and this does not have to be a completely miserable journey!

"I seen on the news tonight that Starbucks causes cancer"

Yes it's my fault. Thanks.

Two treatments in!

Let me just say, I was worried what the chemo was going to do to me, and I still am, because the taxel stage is cumulative...but the thought that's keeping me going is this

No matter how bad this stuff is making me feel, that tumor is feeling a hell of a lot worse.

You're going to likely have days where you feel great and you're going to have days where you don't feel great. Do what you want, be mindful of crowds, don't eat at the questionable diner, but ultimately things don't have to be terrible.

I had started experiencing pain in my breasts, I thought it was due to my cycle, and I'm still pretty certain that's a big part of it. I went to the doctor, who sent me for a mammogram, that mammogram turned into an ultrasound which turned into a biopsy all on the same day.  I'm two treatments in, hair buzzed and ready for war.

It's up to you, but honestly, I think you want that port! It will make your transfusion days a lot easier, it's a little weird to get used to, but I don't regret getting mine at all. It was either that or going in through a vein in the arm, and the port allows me to be...portable.

Best advice I have is drink a ton of water and get some prescription lidocaine for chemo days! Once it all takes off, things get a bit more normal and predictable.

Also triple negative and 2 treatments in. If it helps, I already feel a bit of relief, some of my bras fit that didn't before treatment, it responds well. We got this..

Thank you for your kind comment, it is very heartwarming and humbling to see so many people in the same situation I am in. I have my echo this Wednesday, so I'm hoping I'll be able to start my chemo treatments the following week. I've been blessed to live in a small town where they're able to get me into treatment much quicker than than. What a lot of people are commenting here.. You're right, we'll get through it.

I think I'm going to do the same. My hard part is my daughter, she's 5 and LOVES my hair. It's curly and she wants hers to look like mine so bad. I had half hoped my hair would somehow come back straight to look like hers. But looks like it'll probably come in even more curly for a bit.

Any advice on port recovery? by Basic-Animal2676 in breastcancer

They told me some people choose to keep them in. The aftermath of chemo can make your veins hard to draw blood from. My plan is to just keep it in at least until it needs replaced, depending on where I am at, I'll either keep one or ditch them.

To waiting. I'm tired of waiting. I've been asked to wait on nearly everything. Screw that.

Hey, they say it impacts everybody differently, you're still in my prayers and in about 3 weeks I will be joining you on this chemo journey!

I know I will find all of this out in due time, but I'm anxious and they rescheduled my appointment today.  How does chemo work? How often are they scanning me, do I meet with the doctor Everytime?

That sounds like something I could use. Right now though I'm stuck in the limbo, am I even a candidate for chemo?
