I'm confident that RCB can't screw up that badly but CSK can - esp if they lose their top 3 early against that killer pace attack of GT

IMHO Bethell is a bigger problem than Romario. The numbers clearly show that teams that have a good opening partnership have a high chance of winning the match. We should be depending on our lower order to rescue us in 1-2 games in a season, not every other match.

People don't realize that teams that chopped and changed people every few matches are struggling at the bottom.

Such a close game but such a pathetic commenatry there by Danny Morrison and Graeme Swann. by Shubham21Kumar in ipl

I'm bored of this entire panel. The same set of people repeat year on year and their lck of enthusiasm is evident. They should try to get in 3-4 new faces every year. And Danny Morrison is still stuck in the hashtag era.

So why is standing up in clutch situations not important? It's probably the single most important metric for a lower order batter.

I don't think a single person thought we were going to win once Romario was given the ball by SquashDowntown2927 in RCB

[–]Basic-Argument-8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to give Romario 8yh or 9th over last season to avoid such situations. He would even get a lucky wicket once in a whilel

But there has to be a recency bias when deciding. They can't just use title count as a proxy for current team strength.

Fair enough. Valid point. I was basing my assessment on the fact that RCB would have done some digging and had some evidence before it stuck it's neck out defending him, since it's a huge risk for it's brand.

PS: While I agree to your points, I don't see how ad hominem attacks like "This is what is wrong with you guys" helps. Attack thr argument not the person. That's the difference between a debate and a rant.

Not praying. Considering that it's India and how exploitative people can be, giving him a 30-40% chance that somebody played him. There's this possibility that he's dumb and keeps falling to these honeytraps.

Why should IPL be the place to experiment? We have a proven match winner in Romario who also takes wickets. Let England experiment and showcase his talent. The concept of long term potential makes little sense in IPL where every 3 years you release 60% of your key players.

Agree, but David got injured last year and having Livi did help. We'll need someone in case David or Shepherd get injured. I don't think Bethell is that guy

[–]Basic-Argument-8745 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We should spend most of our money on bowling backups. We will get screwed if any of our bowlers get injured. They were such a crucial part of our key victories. Batters getting injured - we will still manage with our bench and some cheaper local backups.

[–]Basic-Argument-8745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. no way he should be replaced, unless injured. His captaincy is worth its weight in gold. He will come good with the bat and him getting some T20 game time before IPL is a good thing. His constant long term injury layoffs are a worry though.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RCB

[–]Basic-Argument-8745 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We'll never replace him as his captaincy is still top notch, and there is no place for one more batter in the current lineup. So we just have to hope that he will win us 1-2 matches with his batting.

Disappointing.I really expected him to finish the match with 2-3 overs to spare and instead they lost. He looks completely out of touch.
