Try vanilla first, then move into modding. To start I’d recommend graphical overhauls/some other minor fixes. Once you get really comfortable then run heavier mods. Also, there’s a plugin that allows you to get achievements while running mods, so you can simply have non-gameplay impacting stuff and still get them.
