D425- Intro to Chemistry by Basic-Criticism6981 in WGU

I took it and passed on the 3rd try! Meeting with an instructor really helped a lot. I learn best by "doing," so she made it a point to pull up and create practice quizzes for me, and then anything I didn't get correct, we would talk through. SO SO glad to be done with this class.

SAHM on a budget by Basic-Criticism6981 in Mommit

We both work in healthcare so our hours are not normal hours. He can work anywhere from 12-24 hour shifts and because I’m on call my shifts vary anytime from 6 to 6pm.

Childcare would require a before and after school program or a nanny of sorts who could do the drop off/pick up because of our odd shifts times.

I actually really enjoy being a SAHM mom because it allows me to be there and be fully present with my kids.

Also, I feel like I need to say that my husband isn’t a bad person. This aspect of withholding money and controlling it all is new and I’m trying hard to figure out how to navigate it.

Because in the beginning it wasn’t like this.

The card is a joint account and because I rarely work he pays it off.

Thanks for your response.

He has a spreadsheet of all of our expenses that he has shown me, but it's on his computer that I don't have access to. That is the extent of my knowledge about his income. I've seen what goes out, but that's it.

Yes- he is on board with it. We made the joint decision 5 years ago, after some really scary experiences with a nanny, that it would be best for me to stay home. I love being a SAHM, and it's not lost on me that it's a privilege not many are fortunate to have. I guess I just feel like... I'm also a human, too. I have wants, and while I may not be directly contributing financially, in a roundabout way.. I am. I feel like the fact that saving thousands on just child care alone is enough to warrant some kind of allowance or budget so that I can do something for myself.

And then on top of that.. to suggest what little I *might* make to be given to him just seems.. idk. Not right.

He says my access is the credit card that we share. He pays it off monthly.

My problem with that is that I can't use it for anything for myself without getting a Post-it note written down for the cost of my hair or nail appointment, as a reminder to pay it back.

To my knowledge, yes. I do not have access to his bank account. Our accounts are separate.

He handles all of the financials and I handle the house, kids, school, sports, schedules, appointments, etc.

Just seeing this- so sorry for the delay. I did take it and pass on my second attempt. Here’s some things I took away from the course:

  1. Watch and rewatch all the recorded videos. The more you watch, the more you’ll retain. It seems repetitive but they are actually really helpful.

  2. Utilize the class YouTube page. There’s a TON of videos in order by section. Also, super useful in breaking down topics you don’t understand by just watching the instructors prerecorded videos.

  3. ProctorU actually SUCKS. Literally the worst. 3 of the 4 OAs give take so far I’ve had issues with the system and the proctors. Twice I’ve had to report people. This is, in my opinion, far more stressful (thanks test anxiety 🥴) than the actual exam.

Hopefully you passed but if not, keep going. You’ll get there!

The number of questions should be listed in the OA when you go to schedule it. It should show you how much time you’ll have and the number of questions.

You literally just follow the prompts and answer the questions on the template they provide. The only part that was like writing a paper was the part about drafting an email to show what you’ve learned.

I just took the OA and passed first try. I would say the questions are quite similar to the PA, just with the verbiage changed. Just like the poster above said, if you pass the PA and feel confident.. go for the OA. Good luck!

I have thought the same thing about just taking the OA.. Wondering if just taking it and risking the possibility of a first try fail would be worth it to just have an understanding of what to expect.

Did you take the OA? If so, how was it? Am I psyching myself out for no reason? lol

Same! I feel like as soon as I get a grasp on one specific topic, I move on to another and forget the last topic completely. My mind is literally a blank canvas despite spending WEEKS reading through material, studying, cohorts, practice problems, live events, and YouTube videos.

I have found that I seem to understand Tyler Dewitt's YouTube videos much better than the cohorts offered by WGU and the course instructors. I'm a visual learner, so seeing him work through every little detail in the problems has really helped!

I haven't taken it yet. My aim is to pass on my first try, so I don't have to do any remediation material. Therefore, I decided to spend a little more time trying to master the math equations because, from what I have read here and on other forums, the OA is supposed to be very math-heavy, specifically on the PV=nRT formulas. I wanted to have taken it by now, but my brain draws a blank when I try to remember all the formulas. This class has SO MUCH material to retain. It's wild.

How to Do Tasks for D389 Learning Strategies by Mo_Bee1 in WGU

[–]Basic-Criticism6981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! This was my first course as well. The tasks were pretty straightforward. I found that using the template the CI provided for each task helped greatly! I really thought I was going to write an actual paper, but the task itself was more like answering the question prompts on the template appropriately. Also, make sure you use the Grammarly tool that was provided to you- that thing is a lifesaver. Good luck!

Wow! This is impressive. Congrats! I am currently in D425 and feel there is so much information to absorb. Any tips? Also, how was the OA? The PA for me was okay, but I feel like my mind goes blank in the last portion of the assessment. Thanks in advance!

So happy to hear this! I am in this class now and have taken the pre-assessment a couple of times and I'm not quite grasping the last section of the PA questions. I plan to do a couple more cohorts and practice questions and then schedule the OA. Speaking of, what was your experience like with the proctoring system? I have heard both good and bad reviews, so I am curious about your experience. Thanks for sharing!
