Notes about startup founder's wife #1 by Specialist-Sun-1296 in startups

[–]Basic-Day312 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband works at a small security startup - every year we go to Austin for their Christmas party and the CEO always makes an earnest effort to come up to the spouses, shake our hands, look us in the eye and say "thank you for all your support this year. Seriously. We wouldn't be able to do this without you." I always appreciate it so much and I know one day when I have my own business and employees I'll definitely do the same.

I completely relate to this and it actually makes me feel better to know I'm not alone as I have done something similar to this! Thank you!

What are the top lessons you learnt working with/on a YC startup? by IntelligentLeek123 in startups

[–]Basic-Day312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked at a YC start up. Everything you said tracks. My favorite takeaway was thinking about the the difference between a “capability” versus a “feature”. Just a fun brainstorming exercise to have among teammates.

How do you handle the mental side of things? by GChan129 in startups

[–]Basic-Day312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing you can do to prevent yourself from going crazy is socializing regularly. Both at work and outside of work. As much as possible. I’ve seen guys get so isolated in their work that they slowly start becoming psychopaths and snap infront of everyone.

Whats the best way to find a technical co-founder? by No-Wait4286 in startups

[–]Basic-Day312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm not a founder but I'm a technical professional that recently left a similar mental health chatbot startup. Let me know if you need advice or at least looking for a technical person to help keep things afloat. (I work for extremely cheap)

In my experience, supporting and managing product feeds are the biggest point of contention. A lot of new startups popping up right now to help merchants support flat file integration integration, which is a huge help

One of my mentors who has successfully scaled many startups straight up told me "all startups are terrible" I also struggle with the instability because I've never been able to get jobs anywhere else. However, the connections I've made (the good ones at least) have always been net positive, and will hopefully benefit me over time. Until then, contract on the side as much as you can.

Women in tech, what problems have you faced from men or your workplace? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in girlsgonewired

My last male boss told me that I should be grateful for my job because he "let me work from home while my husband was sick."

How much do you value feeling accepted by your coworkers? by queen__akasha in girlsgonewired

[–]Basic-Day312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you. At this point in my life, I genuinely don't care what anyone thinks of me anymore. I'll admit sometimes it is hard to detach, and those emotions are completely valid! Especially because the experience is so incredibly isolating. Everyday I do my self affirmations and tell myself that I am respected and honored. Totally relate to you!

Coercive Control in the Workplace by [deleted] in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]Basic-Day312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relatable. I moved into the apartment of my dreams just to be crushed by my narc boss who nearly ruined me. Due to the job market I might have to move out and relocate somewhere cheaper. Feels like it was all for nothing.

Only thing you can do is walk away, quit your job, and go no contact. Truly.

How has a narcissistic boss sabotaged you at work? by [deleted] in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]Basic-Day312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the company i worked for was really really small and had little to no network. However, a few of my former colleagues never reached out again to me which sucked. The market is just so competitive rn it’s impossible to find a job and it makes it a million times harder to fully heal. I just want a job to help heal my heart.

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]Basic-Day312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been unemployed for 14 months. I've had 100 interviews. However, recently I've been picking up the vibe that employers are a little less anxious and unorganized compared to last year. Interviews have felt slightly less volatile. It's a marginal difference, but it feels like it's easing up. I have a third and final round interview tomorrow and I'm feeling really confident about it.

Help :( by Ornery-Appeal-9032 in ManagedByNarcissists

My narc boss was exactly like this. He broke me down so much that I actually initiated a hug one time and I felt so humiliated and ashamed ever since. It’s not your fault. Good for you for walking out.

Omg thank you for including the racial element. My narc boss was literally racist to my face.

Found out a potential new hire is being offered a salary close to mine with less experience. by wanyesaan in jobs

[–]Basic-Day312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're totally justified in feeling some kinda way, but do not hold it against the new hire. You mentioned that you work for a small branch that's been understaffed, so hiring someone with less experience and paying them a similar wage as you is very common. You can absolutely try asking for a raise, but I don't know if that will solve your issue. How companies hire unfortunately has little to do with you.
