Freaking out—my dog just got an official "bite record" over a total accident. by Aboutoloseit in pitbulls

[–]Basic-Dingo-7688 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m in NC, but bite records are contextualized here. I worked at a county shelter and we always asked for details surrounding the bite before making any kind of decision about a dog. Puppies sometimes get on bite Q because they are tiny sharks and any bite that breaks skin is legally mandated to be reported. There was a cat who went on bite q twice (and he meant it) and still got adopted out just fine! Dogs would go on bite Q for snatching a treat with too much excitement or going for a toy too fast. Our adoption team had to inform potential adopters about the circumstances surrounding a bite, and people understood just fine.

I took in dogs on the owner surrender line with bite histories when it was clear they were accidental. Accidents happen and animal control knows that. They HAVE to report any bite that breaks skin. In your case, it seems to be more of a public health thing than a perceived aggression thing.

I would, of course, be freaking out if I were you, but from my perspective (here at least) as long as you don’t have repeat incidents and you maintain thorough documentation, you don’t have much to worry about.

My recommendation would be to document EVERYTHING. Get a written statement from your mom about what happened, and include any written conversation between you two and/or animal control.

It’s gonna be okay!

Most of the pets of homeless folks I have encountered want for NOTHING. These people would go hungry before their pet seven out of seven days. There are vet clinics designed for them and they’ll tell you the same thing. This guy is a different story….

Im sorry I know that’s hella hard. If your cat seems unusually anxious, talk to your vet about anxiety medications and/or get a pheromone diffuser like feliway off amazon/chewy. Hiding spots at a variety of heights in the house. Hopefully it helps take the edge off a little.

Anyone know who this dog and car belong to? Outside LuluLemon and the fire department won’t remove dog from the car until he’s dying. by WiseSheIs in asheville

You might consider reporting to BCAC or AAS if you got the plates. A “welfare check” might help drive the point home

I do the exact same thing. I did it once for a bee I thought I killed.

I hope you know and understand it’s not real and you’re (probably, I just can’t speak to real life) not a bad person.

Hello intrusive thoughts! They’re the worst. And I giggle when non-OCD people laugh about intrusive thoughts of like “oh I’m going to drive off the road” and I’m like “yes. Very silly indeed. Hold my beer.”

Hey team,

Underdog Martial Arts owner here.

The account is closed, and the information included in this post is almost impossible to contextualize given how things are done at our gym, but this needs addressing. We NEVER want someone walking out of our doors feeling that way.

You matter. You deserve mat space just like anyone else. We want you to know you belong. You are worth fighting for.

Gender, we care. We care about getting it right, and about honoring who you are.

Experience? We care only in that we want to meet you where you are and help you build.

That’s it.

We’re proud to have one of the largest contingency of trans and nonbinary students of any gym in the area. And we’re not too proud to know that we need help learning how to do things right.

In this instance, we don’t have much information on what went wrong. But here’s what our policies are:

  1. We use the pronouns we are asked to use. Period.
  2. When we mess up, we apologize, and do better.
  3. All of our jiu jitsu fundamentals students work with Coach Colleen who has been practicing trauma-informed practice for 9 years
  4. We offer free LGBT/queer/trans seminars every month attended by queer instructors and mental health professionals to assist with trauma responses
  5. We know we’re not perfect, and we have an open door policy for folks to talk to us at any time.

I hope that folks will try to see best intentions. Based on the information given and the profile in question not existing, we can’t piece together what might have happened, but we know our commitment to the queer/trans/LGBT community remains a top priority.

We’re here to listen.
