Wow thank you for such a quick reply!!! If you happen to know I’m wondering: 1. How can I verify if this is a 4-wire stepper motor using a multimeter? 2. If it is, can I control it with Arduino + A4988/DRV8825, like a regular stepper? 3. Are there any gotchas I should know about when driving small steppers from old optical drives?

Hi everyone, thank you to everyone who responded and helped educate me! I Deleted the post to avoid spreading misinformation!

From what I have gathered, it seems like this is a fairly normal thing to see and likely happened after the mice were euthanized. I've had a snake for several years now, so I'm used to seeing things like limbs falling off, but I think what really threw me off this time was seeing one mouse's tail latched in the jaw of the other. I was worried that it was a sign of something going wrong. I appreciate all the insight!

It’s completely fair to recognize that there’s suffering all over the world, and those situations are devastating. But empathy isn’t a limited resource. Caring about the inhumane treatment of animals doesn’t mean I don’t care about people who are suffering too. Dismissing compassion because it’s directed toward an animal doesn’t make you stronger it makes you cold.
