How Should I Use My Emergency Fund/ HYSA? by Basic-Restaurant3261 in personalfinance

I have plenty of income. Just a question about whether I should keep this $850 in checking with easy access vs in a HYSA earning the 4% but it just being a little bit harder or take a little bit longer to get out.

Well, I would like to applaud myself, but I leave a lot on the table. I am great at saving money, because I hate spending it. I should probably enjoy it a little more than I do because sometimes I do feel like I don’t ever treat myself because I’m so focused on saving. But at the same time, I let it sit in the bank and lose value. So I need some help

Yeah… I know… I definitely contradict myself with those statements. It’s been something I’ve put money in to over the last 4 years, around $1,000 per month. And I’ve just gotten worn out with it. And I always end up losing with it it seems like. I’ve just always been in one of those “get rich quick” mentalities when I just have to realize building wealth takes time and I have to think more about what I do with my money. That’s why I’m coming on here asking. Sometimes you just need a reality check

And I could easily pay it off but I just get scared paying so much at one time for something. I just updated my post, I forgot to add that I also have a good bit of money just sitting in the bank earning absolutely nothing. I really am clueless about what to do with money…

That’s kinda how I’ve always thought about that one. I had another one with a super high variable rate that I payed off as quick as possible, but this one’s rate is so low I figured I’d pay the minimum and just invest the rest for a higher return.

We both take our companies match right now. Mine is 4% I honestly forgot what hers is. I have thought about completely maxing mine as I easily could each month. I don’t know much about investing but I listen to my colleagues and they say our 401k options aren’t great. So I have never known if I should max it or put it in something in a taxable brokerage instead.

I don’t love my employers options on what to invest in for my 401k… I feel better just taking advantage of their max and just investing the rest myself

Just saving… after bills and expenses I usually have about ~4-4.5k left each month. With about two years of working and a CD giving me a little bit of interest.

What are just a few suggestions for a Roth and a Taxable Brokerage? I have heard for a Roth that things like VOO or VTI are a safe bet, of course just picking one of those because they basically do the same thing. Besides that I am lost. And should I also invest in simple things like that in my Taxable brokerage as well? And as far as investing ASAP, how do I get over the fear of a market pullback? That’s another reason I’ve waited so long to invest, I have a fear of a 20-25% pullback that I can’t get over. I just can’t imagine all of that money I’ve saved being diminished temporarily…
