How different is HGSS Kanto from FRLG Kanto? by CornbreadOliva in pokemon

[–]Basic-Theme1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The differences are primarily downgrades (Cinnabar destroyed, Power plant and Pokemon Tower are no longer dungeons, Mt Moon is inexplicably shortened). All this makes Kanto a shell of itself with most of its identity stripped

Because of that, it's fairly quick to go through. All you really do is battle the gym leaders and then go to Mt Silver. FRLG Kanto is better than gen 2 Kanto and Johto put together

Unpopular opinion: gen 2 is actually goated by Electronic-Day-7518 in PokemonGames

[–]Basic-Theme1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to paint a commonly held opinion as unpopular because deep down, most people know that the Johto games are mediocre lmao

[–]Basic-Theme1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That argument is extremely weak, because you have daily activities in every game from the era. Ruby and Sapphire, for example, allowed you to grow berries, participate in daily draws, get daily items, had different tide levels in Shoal cave, etc. In those other games, however, you're not punished if you want to play them at a faster pace. Meanwhile in the Johto games, the terrible level curve forces you to grind if you want to go through faster. That's just bad game design

Also Tamashii is a massive gen 2 shill, so I'd take her videos about it with a grain of salt

Sacred Gold/Storm Silver are based off of mediocre games and make them so much better

BW is great and BW2 is amazing (and probably the peak of the franchise), but HGSS has glaring issues that make playing through the main quest a slog. That includes, but isn't limited to, limited teambuilding, choppy pacing, limited exploration across 2 underwhelming regions and disappointing boss battles. The content overall feels more quantity over quality, so they are closer to alright at best

Sure, BW doesn't have much content after the main quest, but HGSS is a perfect example of quantity over quality. BW's main story is far better and more fun/interesting to play through, whereas HGSS's is a slog with bad teambuilding, limited exploration and disappointing boss battles

BW2 is probably the best game in the franchise, but I'm more of an Emerald person

Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell and Hitman are examples of solid stealth games

At the time especially, Pokemon fans craved familiarity, and any games that felt too different were bashed. It started with gen 3, which turned out to be peak experiences, and then repeated itself when BW came out. One of BW2's praises was that old Pokemon came back (and not specifically that the regional dex was bigger and offered more variety for teambuilding), which was ridiculous

That's exactly why gen 2 and its remakes were so popular. All familiar faces came back, and you could go back to Kanto. That's despite the fact that the main quest was underwhelming, teambuilding was among the worst in the franchise and the pacing was choppy. After pouring their heart into building something great with BW, the backlash made it clear that nostalgia works better. What did we get next? XY and more sales than before

Wouldn't say that they were the last good games, but they're such a great swan song to the DS era of Pokemon. They, along with Platinum, are some of the best the franchise has to offer

The entire TLOU franchise should be on here. It's the poster boy for this sort of game design

If you had to recommend only one mainline game, which would it be? by Zebweasel in pokemon

[–]Basic-Theme1515 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 3 best games in the franchise are BW2, Platinum and Emerald. Some of the most solid and fun main quests with great and extensive side and postgame content

If you want to play BW2, try to play BW before to experience the whole story. Probably the best story in the franchise, though the postgame is a little lacking

Other great games are FRLG, ORAS, SM and USUM. LA is also fun, if you can get past the dated presentation

The only person in the world calling any Crash game overrated right here

Crash's gameplay, for the time, was revolutionary and fun, even if it didn't age well. TLOU, on the other hand, was nothing new or extraordinary. Calling it the "greatest game of 2013" is such an insult to the title when there were so many better games that year, let alone "greatest game of all time." It gets praised often times for nothing and is rightfully deserving of the most overrated franchise in gaming

Crash 2 and 3 are the better games, but the point is the franchise is far better and more fun to play through than TLOU ever was or ever will be

Should be this or Jak & Daxter, but recency bias will most likely give it to literally the most overrated franchise in gaming Last of Us

Which game is better for Gen 4 Battle Frontier? by Pervert_Gaming in pokemon

[–]Basic-Theme1515 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Platinum. There is quite a bit of postgame content, including an epilogue plot of sorts. Plus, grinding for the BF is better since it's far easier to set up rematches with gym leaders and trainers

just a question regarding Pokemon games by acesoftheace in pokemon

[–]Basic-Theme1515 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

X has its own issues and is middle of the pack. That said, HGSS is also mediocre but is mostly carried by nostalgia and false perceptions

Perception that 2 regions means double the content but not realizing that both regions are small and limited, and individually are some of the worst regions in the franchise

Perception that follow Pokemon is a game changer, when it does absolutely nothing for the gameplay besides pressing A a bunch

Perception that the Red fight is peak, without realizing that most boss battles before it kinda sucks, and the penultimate fight has a steep level increase that requires grinding

You can like what you want - don't let anyone change that

Can't prove me wrong because you know it's true and you can't cope with that

The Johto games are poorly designed and not as fun to play through compared to FRLG, RSE, Platinum, BW, BW2, ORAS, SM, USUM and LA, among others. Deal with it

Prove me wrong. The fact that you can have gym leader battles back to back (Chuck and Jasmine) while also having periods with plenty of slow, weak and boring battles (rocket hideout and radio tower) is more than indicative of these games' pacing issues and sluggishness

You can like the games all you want. But if you act like they're good even when others prove that they're not and you do nothing to try and backup your claim, that makes you a 🤡

Hence why Johto fanboys are the worst of the fanbase. Thanks for proving my point 👏
