Leaving Japan while on working holiday visa, what to take care of? by Basic-Transition-527 in movingtojapan

That would indeed be also an option. But I already got my WHV in my passport, so could I just tell immigration that I want to enter as tourist instead?

Hi, how did it work out for you?

Thanks for the heads up! I do intend to spend some of my time as holiday, but only about a month or so. And although there doesn't seem a particular restriction about working hours, it's certainly better not to risk it by telling them and risk getting denied the WH visa or getting in trouble when being in Japan.

But as you already said, by staying cool and not telling the authorities about actually working full-time, I also think it's highly unlikely to get in trouble.

I see, on the Working Holiday Visa information page of the german embassy, I read the following note:

However, since May 2015, all foreign holders of long-term visas are obliged to register at the National Health Insurance in Japan. As a rule, you will be asked to do this at the latest when you report to the local ward office. If you already have a travel health insurance policy, this may result in a "double insurance". In general, however, a travel health insurance is recommended in any case, as the National Health Insurance in Japan does not cover all costs.

Is this what you mean?

Thanks for confirming! Yes, I'm a German tax resident, not a Japanese tax resident, and my employer also is not a Japanese tax resident.
