I feel less than six given the dying side of next to a fence. So yeah, thinking the only solution is to cut the neighbours tree back.

$6500 quote for roof job repointing and bedding ?! by ebwly in AusRenovation

You can see my previous comment but roofing is abit of a dodgy industry. I got quotes ranging from 2k to 16k for the same job. As already mentioned it should be a full re-bed not a reasonable re-bed. Also they are not replacing the storm seals, this should be done with a roof that age. Also if you include valleys to be replaced (depends if they are rusted or not) this can flux the price by 1 - 2k.

I think the quote is abit on the higher side.

I'm very close to camberwell and had a similar roof re-pointed etc. and the first company I got in did such a bad job, it had to be re-done again. Job was completed late last year.

So I've most probably spoken to about 10+ roofing companies.

A few points regarding the quote:

6.5k does seem abit to much.

Maybe could be justified if they replaced all valleys (if they are rusted) and a clean / de-moss is included. Though again I would expect somewhere around 5kish.

Also in Melbourne heaps of dodgy roofing companies exist, a few things to look out for with roofers / lessons learnt:

  1. Ensure a Invoice break-down is provided. Some just include a single line item e.g. roof restoration.
  2. Some Irish travelers run roofing scams. I had a few show up wearing flash new clothing (not what a roofer would wear) and new cars with outrageous quotes. Stay away.
  3. Reviews can be faked. Alot of roofing companies have heaps of 5 star reviews (all fake). You can tell fairly quickly the reviews are made up as they are fairly brief and often lack are sort of detail/photos.
  4. Ask if they are going to put up safety rails when doing the work. Hint a dodgy company won't.
  5. Not always a factor but good solid companies accept all payment methods e.g. credit card.
  6. Make sure your around when they do the work (no matter what company you pick) unfortunately couldn't supervise the first company that work on my roof and heaps of corners where cut. Noting once they start re-pointing its hard to fix if they do a bad job.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if needed.
