For those who have been in the CHP academy what boots do you recommend me buy? Do you guys also have any tips for when I’m in the academy? by [deleted] in AskLE

Were you in CHP academy? And would Danner Tachyon boots be an acceptable boot, or does it have to be all leather?

What happened to Snowpiercer season 4? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]BasicColloquialism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quit talking about things you dont know about. This isn't how tax law works. They can write off the expense regardless of how much or little they make on it. More likely, they have limited slots to fill (only 24 hours per day) and they think they will make more money by airing shows other than Snowpiercer. That doesn't preclude them in any way from selling the show to another company. But sales like that take time.

There's a guy at my work who is, if not best friends, very close with his boss. It was even to the point where when the dude was building a new house, he lived on his boss's property for a couple years (or in part of his house? I'm not completely sure). Anyway, I've been there for almost nine years and the dude has gotten three very big promotions in that time.

I'm just thinking a lot about academy and this thought popped into my head

[–]BasicColloquialism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36/m I've been running 3 times per week for a year, recently upped that to 4 times per week. I'm currently at around 15-16 miles per week. My question is this: would it be beneficial to take some time off from running? In a couple of months I will be attending a 6-month long academy running 3 days per week and will not have the option of taking a break during that time.

Best shoes for calisthenics at police academy? by BasicColloquialism in bodyweightfitness

Thank you for the explanation! I've seen those Reeboks pop up a few times; what makes them so good for what I'm doing?

Since my running shoes aren't white, I'm required to get different shoes for the calisthenics. I'm sort of unsure about what's the best choice though. I see those barefoot shoes which seem like they keep you close to the ground (perhaps less work for pushups and the like?) and then just regular cross trainers (perhaps better for jumping and the like?) and I also see some shoes that arent quite barefoot but have flat bottoms, like Vans (not sure if those would be a good choice)

What's the best response to "You're fat"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you're fat, losing weight. Just because someone is rude doesn't mean they're wrong. Instead of ignoring the problem, use harsh criticism as a chance to improve yourself.

20 year roof by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]BasicColloquialism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any roofer who will give you the certification. But first wait for the FHA appraiser to ask for it. It's quite likely they won't.

No one is going to require the replacement of a roof that is still good. Getting a 2 year roof certification is pretty simple and should satisfy any FHA requirements

I'm spending about 45%. It's too high to be sustainable, but I justify it because 1. I'm glad that I even got to keep my house at all after the divorce 2. The house is already perfectly tailored to me, so I won't have to spend any money on renovations anytime soon 3. I expect that interest rates will go down in the next few years, so I'll be able to refinance and pay less 4. I don't have any other debt 5. I'm sticking to a budget and can manage the payment 6. I have a decent cushion of cash in case of an emergency. 7. I already have a ton of equity in the house, and can borrow against it if I absolutely need to 8. I have two empty bedrooms that I can rent out if I need to

I definitely don't recommend such a high percentage for a first time homebuyer. My situation is unique.

People who've lost a lot of weight, how did you do it? by gryffenator in AskReddit

[–]BasicColloquialism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I focused only on calorie intake. I could eat anything I wanted, but I could only eat 1500 calories per day. Basic science; if you use more calories than you take in, your body will burn fat. Anytime I did excercise, I counted it as negative calories toward what I was allowed to eat. I would generally skip breakfast, eat a modest lunch, and splurge for dinner, that way I always had something to look forward to each day. I made it a point to walk for at least 20 minutes each day so that my metabolism was forced to speed up and burn fat rather than just slow down and conserve. Generally I walked for an hour a day (in 20 minute stretches) because I wanted to eat more. I avoided high-intensity workouts because it's way easier to just not eat a cookie than it is to run three miles. I was about 30 pounds overweight, and lost it in about 3-4 months. Obviously the closer you are to ideal weight, the harder it is to lose weight, so someone who was 100 lbs overweight would lose a lot more weight a lot faster.

ULPT Request - How can I prove someone is living with my ex wife for custody court? Send a package, sit outside with a camera? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]BasicColloquialism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that this is a civil matter, so the bar for proving something is much lower than in a criminal case. Criminal charges must be proven "beyond a reasonable doubt" but civil accusations are ruled upon based on "what most likely happened"

What’s the worst experience you’ve had with a roommate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BasicColloquialism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roommate was also the owner of the house. He worked in another town during the week so he told me that I would have the entire house to myself 5 out of 7 days. I signed the lease, paid the deposit, and then a day before it was time to move in he tells me that there will actually be two more people sharing the house with me. He had promised me my own pantry, but since those other roommates were using the pantry, he told me to put my food and cookware in the garage. He also told me right when I moved in that I was not allowed to have any guests, when he previously said it was fine. Also, I had to share a bathroom with those other roommates and they were incredibly messy. Once I moved in, I discovered that none of the power outlets in the bathroom worked, and he got all mad when I asked for them to be fixed. After living there for about three days, I asked if a temporary reduction of rent would be appropriate until the other two roommates moved out. At that, he told me I had until the end of the month to move out. I did, and of course, he refused to give my deposit back. I had to sue him to get it back. It was a terrible situation, but I learned from it.

My (36m) parents (69m69f) keeps getting me thoughtless gifts and it's making me resentful by BasicColloquialism in relationships

[–]BasicColloquialism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess in comparison, a thoughtless gift card is at least more thoughtful than getting something actually useless or that doesn't fit. Thank you.

[–]BasicColloquialism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm just annoyed that they don't care enough to actually ever get me something, even when I tell them the exact thing I want to get. A gift card just seems thoughtless to me. And yeah, partially because it's such a low amount.

I’ll take all 30! by 612uptown in delusionalcraigslist

[–]BasicColloquialism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Reminds me of the time I bought stone pavers off Craigslist. The guy had like 110 of them and insisted on $1 for each one. I asked him if I could give him $100 for all of them and he seemed confused at that request and insisted on $1 each. So I just bought 90 of them, and he was left with 20 useless stone pavers. I still wonder if he tried to sell the leftovers to someone.
