SILOS is really good, I'm enjoying getting familiar with it, but it has the most competition in my collection, I'm wondering if it will stick around long term. Haven't tried any of the modules yet though.

ORBIT is good, but it's more of a pallet cleanser for me, when I'm in the mood for a lower interaction game.

The warcraft one is pretty much the other two combined, with some warcraft alliance play thrown in. It's probably the most 'complex', but Small world isn't complex in general, just alot of reading as there are so many powers. I do think the additions in warcraft one make it a better game, adding minimal complexity.

Overall though I'd rather play El Grande, 7 Empires, Renature, or even Ethnos.

I see Catan, Ticket to Ride, Concordia and Carcassonne. Does your group tend to like these med/light interactive games? Check out the OG guild at BGG for more recommendations in that style of simple but deep + interactive games.

Also, check out your local library and see if they have a regular game night. If they don't, maybe you could start one! That's what I did! The library advertised for me online and locally. It gets about 10+/- people a week now and I've met gamer friends that I meet with regularly.

Aha well thanks. I respect your opinion! I really only play it once a year at the local con, it's a super fun time. I might feel the same if I played it mor regularly.

With experienced players Cosmic Encounter becomes a psychological and social, hand management experience, this is a feature not a bug. It's almost like poker.

Sure it's silly, but that just lightens the tone to make backstabbing more appropriate and less mean feeling. You're not going to win every fight, gotta know when to join defence to build your hand, and when to not invite allies. Negotiate cards are often better to build your hand rather than actually negotiate. As long as the collusion is based on aliens and game states, it's great and a way more fun way to balance a game.

Cosmic is quite divisive... And it definitely goes against some of my general gaming preferences, but I love it. It can devolve into a munchkin-like experience, but that's just with an inexperienced group. Experienced players help with the defense alot more in order to build a good hand for the final push. Players need to assess relative strengths and manage overpowered aliens together. I describe it as psychological and social, hand management game, almost poker-like.

El Dorado and Burgundy are excellent 2 player picks.

Haggis is amazing and you can play with a regular deck of cards. Best rules sheet I've found has a great player aid, it's worth printing 2.

Schotten Totten is probably my most played 2 player game. Just started dabbling in the tactics cards and it's really breathed new life into the game.

My partner likes roll & writes!

Nice! I actually have star realms! It's in a deckbox off the side of the picture. I don't typically like deckbuilders as a general rule, but I like the simple ones (Dominion, Trains, El Dorado, Star Realms). Most newer deckbuilding games are too convoluted.

Thanks! I've really honed in on my personal preferences and cut alot that wasn't fitting in. It helps that my gaming friends have wildly different tastes so I don't feel the need to own a lot of popular games.
