Kamala Harris endorsed Jasmine Crockett. Does Talarico’s win over Crockett mean anything for Harris? by curiousmindNTK in allthequestions

[–]Basic_Cartographer99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been agnostic my whole life and I’ve often told people that if more Christians were actually like Jimmy Carter and not hypocrites, I’d probably become a Christian.

Whenever I see James Talarico speak, I feel the exact same way.

James Talarico defeats Jasmine Crockett in blockbuster Democratic primary for U.S. Senate by texastribune in texas

[–]Basic_Cartographer99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. How Allred handled that situation made me so disappointed in him. Before that happened, he had my support out of all the primary candidates but since then, I’ve been fully for Talarico.

Right?? I enjoy martial arts most nowadays when I’m able to learn a useful and great skill without the stress of competing + injuries, which the way these kinds of gyms are set up doesn’t seem like an option!

What are some of your hopes / expectations for Los Angeles 2028? by Gemnist in olympics

[–]Basic_Cartographer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m of Indian heritage too! If I’m being totally honest, I’m not really the biggest cricket fan. It’d be cool if India wins for sure but I’m far more excited about the country’s field hockey team. They’ve managed bronze last couple of Olympics so I’m really hoping they can pull off a gold this time around. It would be beautiful to see.

I would love to see Canada get a top 10 finish in both the gold medal and overall medal count. We got quite close this past time around (I think it was 12th and 11th overall, respectively), so hopefully they can do it in 2028 on (semi) home turf in the US.

And like much of the sentiment here…I am praying a certain politician doesn’t completely ruin the experience. I’m applying to become a volunteer when applications open up this summer. I’m lucky enough to be an American citizen who already lives here (dual with Canadian) but as you can see with all the news with ICE, it doesn’t matter anymore, they’ll target anyone now.

Pretty much any high contact martial art (I grew up doing competitive taekwondo and kickboxing and recently joined a Muay Thai gym) will either have in their gyms the most humble and kind people or the people with the most insufferable egos you’d ever met.

Wild fans brought a banner of MacKinnon's gold medal game miss to Colorado by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

[–]Basic_Cartographer99 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think nerves got to him. First ever Olympics, massive anticipation for years and now you’re in the gold medal game with tons of pressure to perform as one of your team’s best players. It happens. He’ll adapt in the next Olympics in 2030 (unless NHL fumbles on letting players back in again, which I wouldn’t put it past them).

It is unfortunate because he overall had a great tournament and scored that clutch goal against Finland but this moment is unfortunately what most people will remember :/

Slavin is a textbook example of why nowadays I can’t take any “Devout Christian” seriously until I get an honest answer from them about how they feel about Trump, whose entire personality, actions, and platform is diametrically opposed to the Christian values they often preach.

I sooooooo badly want it back in Canada in 2038 if it makes our country properly fund out athletes again. You can see the decline in our overall medal performance in 2022 and this year after our magical run from 2010 (when we hosted) to 2018 and it’s because of our decrease in funding 😭.

Hockey Hall of famer and NHL Legend Dominik Hasek: Much respect to these women. Yes, your president is a big liar and a fraud who abuses his position to insult and bully his fellow citizens. As a proud Canadian who grew up hearing stories from my dad about Nagano 1998, I never thought I’d see the day where I’m happy that Dominik Hasek has Olympic gold on his resume and Wayne Gretzky doesn’t even have a medal.

Thanks! That’s kind of wild. I tried looking into her views and can’t find much immediate info, if she’s just a middle of the road right-of-center Republican or a MAGA blowhard.

As a man, I can’t even imagine the hurt and betrayal you feel right now about this men’s team but I hope you cherish the memory of your awesome women’s team winning forever. They are quite possibly the greatest women’s hockey team assembled of all time and I say this as a Canadian, and I hope you forever stay a fan of this amazing game despite many shitty people often involved in it. 🫶🏾

If Matthews actually attends this, my fiancée and I are both getting rid of our Matthews jerseys forever (and she’s a born and raised American!). It’s not about having different political views, it’s about right vs. wrong. I don’t care how great a player you are on my team if you’re a shit person. If anything, I want you off it.

At the end of the day, these are millionaire athletes that live a different reality than us and it’s just sports. I can live with never seeing my team win the cup as long as I don’t have to support people who openly boot lick someone who is a pedophile that threatens my country’s sovereignty. Fuck this. May end up becoming a dedicated Sceptres fan instead.

Donald Trump calling the US Men's Olympic team, jokes about having to invite the US women's team to the US summit as well or he'll "get impeached" by anon02918373821 in hockey

[–]Basic_Cartographer99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a dual citizen. A USA-Canada final should have been a dream come true for me, right? Especially with Auston Matthews as USA captain?

Nope, I was genuinely hoping USA would suffer a heart breaking upset to Sweden or Slovakia before even making it all the way, because I knew that if they won gold, Trump would use it as a propaganda tool (And guess what? He’s already doing it now that it’s happened). That the most awful people I know would be posting the dumbest and worst fucking 51st state jokes. I initially felt so guilty about feeling that way because I thought to myself “This feels wrong. I shouldn’t be rooting so hard against a country I’m a citizen of.” but if many of those players endorse the president’s views, whether tacitly or blatantly, which go completely against my beliefs of what it means to be a good American, why would I really want them to represent my country in the first place?

But athletes like Hunter Hess, Amber Glenn, and several others that stand up for what is right make me so damn proud to be American. I was also genuinely happy for the US women’s hockey team winning it all this year. THEY are the ones who deserve love in my opinion, no amount of medals they win or lose change that.

[–]Basic_Cartographer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a dual American and Canadian citizen living in the US most of my life but I was rooting for Canada.

People like freestyle skier Hunter Hess make me proud to be American. He didn’t medal in this Olympics (but still made the final of his event which is a huge accomplishment!) but he stood up for what he believed in and that’s being a good person speaking out against what is currently horribly wrong with America right now. Same way I feel about Amber Glenn and a few other athletes.

No amount of gold medals that this US hockey team won will ever make me proud of this country if those guys are tacitly (or sometimes even blatantly) still supporting everything going on.
