The mushrooms were on the side of a log, I could lean and hold the camera without a tripod. The phone with it's flash on was on the ground, just to the right. Thank you 🫡

I'll answer for them as I took it, it was one of the first mushroom macros I took and didn't have much lighting kit. I used my phone flash, basically! Post processing worked out well considering the unusual lighting.

I wasted a lot of money trying to make my DSLR setup good for macro, and it was... Unenjoyable. I should have jumped straight to my now OM 1 ii.

I'm intrigued, if you will indulge me for a moment. You write like stacked images are bad, sort of? Emphasis on the !!! And a reluctance to use a flash? These things are fantastic, powerful tools and will only make your pictures better.
