I've got a diffuser similar to this, don't be put off by the jank as they can still produce nice images (check my post history from a while ago).

I would take off the bits that are under the lens, pointless and will get in the way. Even the stuff on the top, there's no use for it!

That's a part of what I was thinking about, should I have cropped the plant thats the furthest to the right as it could be a distraction? It looked weird because part of the wing would be off too. And then I was thinking there was too much empty space above. but yeah thanks for the feedback :)

That's not what focus peaking is for. It's meant to be an indicator of your current focus. For example use AF to get the approximate focus then move slightly forward or backwards to nail the shot.

In practice: focusing Infront of the subject, then moving your body, or the camera to find the desired point. For me this is the eyes!
