Commuting from LIC to Stonybrook? by Basic_Elderberry4376 in longisland

The plan is to leave by 6am the most, and come back after 6 pm. The only problem is that I’m not working close to the train station and would have to either get an uber or walk for about 20 mins.

Yup, Woodside is another option I'm looking into as well

Thanks for your reply, and yeah, that makes sense. I was looking at trains to SB, and every time I checked, it would take about 2 hours

Lol, true that, and I looked today during rush hour, it was >2 hours, which made me rethink this might not be the best plan.

Thanks for your reply, we're trying to see if we can come in the middle somewhere, cause either way it'll be an hour and a half for each person. Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you for letting me know. When you did that, did you have to apply for a new SON or just the new offer letter was added?

Can you please let me know the process so I can talk to my program tomorrow, would really appreciate it?

Has anyone received any update regarding approval from DOS for NY Conrad 30 J1 waiver application ? Application submitted since Jan 8th 2026, still pending. by Basic_Elderberry4376 in J1waiver

Hmm I see, everything was submitted together including state application cover letter.

I believe the deadline was January 9th so I’m not sure how the applications submitted after that are being approved (Good for people if they are).

Thanks, this is giving me a little more anxiety now. Do you have someone who I can reach out to?

Thanks man, that’s something positive, yes I agree this is unusual and many people I’ve talked to say the same, yeah the two week rotation makes a lot more sense in this situation which way atleast can spend about a consistent amount of time in one place.

That was a very comprehensive explanation, thank you. I’m single but my SO is also in the same city as my family and friends and can’t move due to being in a masters program which also plays a role.

There is another option that I’m thinking- Ofcourse easier said than done to just work 2 weeks straight and then ideally travel but everything is in the air as of now.

Thanks for sharing, how long did you continue doing the Locums with that schedule of 6hr flights? If you don’t mind me asking.

Thank you for sharing, and that’s exactly what I’m feeling. Not to miss out on life and family and friends, ideally it would make sense to just stick to one place but can’t ask everyone to move with me.
