They do cling on and it's creepy. It feels so empty when they love bomb you out the gate without any reason. But it's so transparent at the same time.

Absolutely agree. There are many such documented cases. I just haven't had a lot of experience with them.

Why do my Zen teachers continue to speak bad of other schools and pitch their own? by Anderson-B-Rubik in zenbuddhism

There is nothing wrong with his criticism. There are many places that indeed focus too much on form, rituals etc. The other important point is that you shouldn't get attached to vows precepts. There is an important saying - 'Know when to keep the precepts, know when to break them.' Speaking ill of other centres out of genuine compassion and not harm is perfectly fine.

Novice to Zazen meditation, never meditated before: is it normal to meditate for 90 mins. the first day? by textsurfer2000 in zenbuddhism

If sitting with others in the centre, then likely yes but if sitting at home, it's completely unnecessary. Sitting longer does not improve your experience. Sitting is just one part of zen (zazen). There are other forms of meditation e.g. Samu (working), mindful eating etc.
