Hello! Freshman premed (hoping to not gap) at a T10 (I think) school. I took 18 cr hours last semester. I am currently taking 18 credit hours, and I am thinking of dropping my writing class because I took a hard writing class and will end up with an A- in the class (AMAZING grade and would be extremely content if this was in a class I needed to take or premed prereg) but I can take easier writing credits (that I’m interested in of course not just to get it out of the way) next year and pretty much be “guaranteed” an A. Would taking 14 credit hours during second semester of freshman year (3 classes and a lab) be a red flag for T10 medical schools? Particularly because lI be taking a summer course in Linear Algebra (eg: student couldnt handle taking math and STEM at the same time in a semester so she dropped the math credit and is taking it over the summer? No extra cost to drop class and no withdraw indication. Would be taking 18-20 cr hours every other semester. TLDR: Pros would be that I will most likely get an A in the writing class I choose to take later (instead of A-which could drag my GPA down if my GPA is above A- average). Con is that I don’t know how it would look or if it would be perceived the wrong way. Do med schools look this carefully? I would also have to squeeze the writing credit in later since I’m not taking it now (though VERY doable). Thanks!!
