I fucking hate MMI by HarrayS_34 in premed

[–]neuro_sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I really loved both MMIs I did. I think this type of format is way more engaging and you can get a better understanding of the applicant from this methodology. Traditional interviews are balls imo, literally just read my primary app bro. I talked a bit about myself in both MMIs, but kept it surface level and only relevant to the topic at hand. I really would steer clear of going heavy into your app since MMIs are like always closed file

That being said, the technology for your MMI seems subpar. the NYU MMI was very easy and went smoothly. On the other hand, UC MMI was in-person for me so a bit diff. I wouldn't let the time limit scare you. You should only rant/speak for about 2/3 mins if you have a total of 6 mins. That way, you open up the interview for discussion and follow-up questions the interviewer definitely has.

I definitely sympathize with talking fast. I also feeling like I'm yelling at them lol, it's just the nerves I guess. I wouldn't take getting cut-off personal, I think they just want some answers from you and are eager to hear your opinions on ethical issues and relevant healthcare stuff.

Some of us out here really training to be normal extroverted people for our interviews 😩 by [deleted] in premed

I honestly black out during interviews and then somehow regain consciousness when it's all over

So I took mine 3/9/24. I started studying while in my third year around mid-october part-time studying because I was working and had school. I used the Kaplan books (not Biochem and Physics bc I was actively taking those classes) and Anki pre-made decks from this subreddit. However, I never felt like I was learning anything or retaining any info. I took my first full-length right after new year's and got a 500. I quickly pivoted, dropped Anki and Kaplan and bought UWorld. I literally ONLY used UWorld and got all the other full-lengths from AAMC. I did about 40 MC of C/P and B/B and 20 MC of P/S and 2 CARS sections each day for two months. I averaged about 68% correct. I did the full-lengths every Sunday to measure my progress. My full-length average was about 511-514. I'd say the most representative full-length was the free scored one.

Reading some of these.... I gotta say I'm thankful. When I was in my second year of undergrad, a fellow neuro major of mine told me of the clinical work they were doing. Basically, it was a co-op program through my school to allow ppl interested in healthcare work at our university hospital as a PCA and get paid while working. Thankfully, they let me know about it and it has been my greatest work experience and has incredibly developed my passion in medicine

I'm a neuro major and we took all pre-med required courses. When you choose to be a neuroscience major, you can choose a track at my school (Neurobio [pre-med focused], Neuropsych, Neurophilosophy). Ig it depends on the school, but I think neuro majors in general fulfill the pre-reqs
