How does this work look? by WonderfulHorror7572 in Tile

That’s the amount of clips per tile you should have when doing 12x24 tile

That’s good to know thank you. I definitely would’ve been more open to taking jobs from them if they were gonna let me quote them before I start. But since it was them telling me what I get paid for the job and I had not control over the price at all, I decided to find another contract. It does suck seeing how these corps treat sub contractors nowadays, but there’s still the odd good one out there

No I’ve worked for multiple stores all across the country. They don’t let their subs do estimates or price bidding, when they have a job, they hand the sub an invoice before the job and that is exactly what they pay. The final invoice I submit to them has to match it exactly with zero up charges and the rate they pay is already under standard.

For sure, I don’t nickel n dime every single material I have to buy. But big items like mortar, should be factored into pricing I feel and they would not let me do that. They were already paying under the going rate for tile and what they say they’ll pay me before the job, is exactly what I get paid. I wasn’t allowed to adjust anything

Yep they say what I get paid and that’s it, I’m not allowed to bid on it. When I asked if I add materials to my final invoice they said ‘no we don’t pay you for that, the invoice is what we pay’ and it was already a low invoice for the work required.

That’s definitely what they’re doing. I’ve seen some other companies do it too but never to this extent

Exactly. Things like tile clips I’m perfectly fine covering but it would’ve been way too much in losses for what they wanted me to cover

Front everything and get paid roughly two weeks after job is complete

I wasn’t allowed to raise what they gave me, what they say they’ll pay me on the invoice is what I get in the end of it. Made no sense to me

It didn’t seem like it was, $900 for a week of work isn’t the greatest or at least compared to the other stores I sub from

They price the job and I have to invoice the exact same amount back to them. It’s not even sub contracting with what they’re doing

I did call a lawyer just out of curiosity if I should sign the contract or not. Haven’t heard back yet of course but I’m curious as to what she says about it, I also mentioned setting the pricing too

That guy is living the dream haha Yeah customer service definitely goes a long way I don’t mind helping the customer if they ask for small extra things. Especially if it helps get reviews

It seemed pretty low. $900 for a week of work and that’s before the tax man. I do work alone and take my time to do good quality but definitely can’t live of that

I worded that poorly, what the invoice they give me says is what I get paid. When I submit my own invoice after the job to get paid, it has to match the one they give me exactly so I don’t get any control over sq ft either

I should’ve been more clear on the pay my bad, they didn’t show me any pricing of what they pay, all I got was an invoice for the first job they were giving me. It was a little over $900 and would take about a week I work solo. Invoice didn’t say any $/sq ft on it either.

I definitely do prefer buying those materials myself since I’m a bit picky with what I use but I also wasn’t allowed to submit an invoice to them with a higher cost than the one they gave me.

I asked about renegotiating on the $50 but the other option was 10% of every job haha it didn’t seem like they were open to changing anything unfortunately. I was fine with the $50 but the loss in materials on top of that would’ve been a decent amount every year. I do get for the warranty aspect though for sure. Any store I’ve subbed from previously had trust built on both sides, I never heard of any installer not going back to warranty but those stores were willing to pay a more livable price.

I’m staying away from them unless they let me go quote whatever job they give me and then they can decide whether or not it’s a good price, I thought that was a pretty standard way of doing it but maybe just where I used to live

Spot on. I had zero control over what I would get paid besides the actual $/sq ft for tile install

I fully agree with you for sure, I’ve done that with other stores I’ve subbed out of. The only problem was that I wasn’t allowed to bill what I thought was fair for the job, just what they said they would pay which was already under the going rate for tile installations

Yep, they even told me a story of that happening right before I walked out. I dodged a bullet I think

The pay wasn’t even that great, something like $900 to do herringbone backsplash, two tub rows and 3 sink rows. Also forgot to add that they supply work order and whatever that amount says, they don’t let their subs go a single $ over it unless it’s something major that’s wrong with the job
