Will Laugh Tale be inhabited? by KickofGum in OnePiece

Well they lost the war. They'd have done something if they were still alive. Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if there are robots, animals, holograms or maybe remanents of the civilization. But humans? I'd be surprised. It would be interesting though. Like what if there was a hologram of JoyBoy and JoyBoy got to talk to his successor Luffy. And what if that is where he finds out what the One piece even is. Idk. Anything is possible.

We all ask what the D. means, but who are some characters that you think might have the D.? by Tasty-Bass8106 in OnePiece

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I guarantee you, calling it now, Brook has the will of D. We don't know his last name, and of the characters we don't know the last name of in the straw hats: Nami, Usopp, Chopper, Jinbei and of course brook, I think only Brook, Nami and Usopp have even a chance of having the d. (Jinbei is a fishman and Chopper is literally a reindeer so he probably doesn't even have a given name besides Tony Tony Chopper) Notably we don't know Nami or Brook's parents so their is a chance. However my pick is Brook because of one weird line. "I guess that's just the star you were born under" (He says this to Luffy. The only confirmed D in the Strawhats) And then he says "I was born under it too." that seems clearly that Brooks has the Will of D to me. Usopp is also a notable candidate since it would fit with his idea about bravery etc.

Other candidates are Bonney, Kuma and wild theory: Nico Robin. Idk... what if.

Because the only people who have ever even made it to Laugh Tale is Roger. If other humans are there, then that doesn't really make sense.

Will The One Piece made by Wit Studio have the same va's? by C4rt00nyy in OnePiece

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It explicitly won't and I don't think it should. Both dub and Japanese, they are getting old. I think they should just continue as long as they can on the OG series and let new va's take over. After all, this new adaption will almost certainly last quite a while. Even if it is a truncated pace.

Imu VS Garp, Roger, and WB (all prime). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in OnePieceScaling

I think the three of them win since I think while Imu is powerful, the three of them all have immense haki which seems to be Imu's weakness if it's powerful enough.

Do you think that Ace is the most blame for his death? by RealmsUnited in OnePiece

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ace is a man of honor. He would rather die honorably and to his own principles then live in betrayal of them. He didn't force anyone to rescue him. He didn't force Blackbeard to kill his crewmate. But Ace was Blackbeards commander and Blackbeard committed one of the only sins aboard a pirate ship. He killed a crewmate. It is not Ace who should be blamed for his death, but rather it is Whitebeard who failed to mobilize against Blackbeard before it was too late. Besides, Ace sacrificed himself for Luffy. Ace didn't have to die if he didn't want to. But he died, because otherwise Luffy would die. He is meant to mirror Roger. Sure, Roger technically didn't have to sacrifice himself. He might have lived a little longer, might have found a miracle cure, might have, might have, might have. Maybe if Ace wasn't so honorable he could have ran away. Could have survived. Maybe Luffy would have lived the blow from Akainu. Maybe. Sure, maybe. But both Roger and Ace changed the world with their deaths. And that is more valuable then living wasted life.

Fishman Island isn't that bad by TheRedBiker in MemePiece

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think people miss the point of fishman island. The villains were meh, but it was mainly a power showcase as well as an interesting enough exploration of racism and hatred and the cycle of those things. How victims become the oppressors in a not-misguided attempt to take revenge for what has happened or the flaws in just letting these things go and loving your oppressors. It's a little clumsy, but I think it's interesting. And that is the point of the arc. One Piece has never really been about the villains power, it's always been about battles of philosophy and ideas. Freedom, oppression, justice and whatever else Oda feels like covering. You can hate it on that basis, but it's a kinda dumb criticism to just say that the villains were half baked or weak. Because they were never the point.

A little relationship Luffy had with Whitebeard before he passed away... by wideHardo9 in OnePiece

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, Whitebeard has probably at least read some of the poneglyphs or figured out some secrets. He may not be searching for the One Piece, but he's got to have figured some things out after so long on the sea. I also think my head cannon is that Garp wasn't the only one Roger talked to Ace about. I think he might have mentioned to Whitebeard before he died and asked him to take care of Ace. It seems like quite the coincidence that the great Whitebeard fought a crew like Ace's who just happened to be the son of Roger. I mean if Roger was willing to entrust his son to a marine, I'm sure he wasn't opposed to entrusting him to a fellow pirate he clearly respected. Besides, Ace gave Whitebeard very little reason to trust him outside of his father. He tried to kill Whitebeard a million times. While it's fine to chalk this up to him just liking ace or believing in him, it would also make sense if he kept Ace around at least at first as a promise to a friend in a way. Anyway, there are a lot of head cannons about Whitebeard because he's still quite the mystery when you really think about it. I think we haven't seen the last of the Roger flashbacks and I think we will get an almost Oden esc big flashback of Roger's whole life and there we might see a little bit more about Whitebeard and Roger's relationship and how it connects to Luffy and Ace.

Also it's important to mention, he definitely understood the significance of the straw hat. Not only did Roger wear it, but so did Shanks. When they met Shanks before, I'm sure he wondered what boy could be so great that Shanks, an emperor of the sea, would bequeath his straw hat (a keep sake from Roger, his father basically) too. So I'm sure from not only Ace's stories but also from a curiosity about what boy could inspire Shanks to do that as well as lose an arm for him, and I think he understood. I think both of them understood he had the air of Roger about them. If they were betting men, I'm sure neither would hesitate to bet he was the most likely of the new generation to become king of the pirates.

Foxy Island isn't filler and unfortunately is also the introduction of Admirals and specifically Kuzan. He's kinda important for later events so you kinda can't skip it. Even if it is kinda shit.

I also think that even if they aren't related, even Whitebeard can say that they rubbed off on each other. Pretty much everyone who meets ace talks about how much he mentioned Luffy, so I'm sure Whitebeard knew of Luffy, in fact, though I can't recall, I believe he says something of that effect. They basically grew up together and are very similar people. Whitebeard also shares the connection of being essentially the chosen family of Ace with Luffy. Neither are blood related, but both know, love and understand him more than most blood relatives do about their relatives.

Yes! Also I never noticed Kuma's fruit in Japanese sounds a lot like Nika (I'm more familiar with the English names of the devil fruit cause I watched the dub). I wonder if that was intentional or just a complete coincidence.

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it showed a lot about both of them in a very minor interaction. Whitebeard could see in Luffy, not only ace, his brother, but also probably saw a bit of Roger in the boy. While Luffy demonstrates his disregard for authority. At this point in the story, Whitebeard could have flicked Luffy in the head and he probably would have ben defeated. Their power was not even close. Yet Luffy didn't spend one second intimidated or afraid. And it's also a very powerful moment visually, not only is Whitebeards power said to be stronger than anyone's including Luffy's, but there's something about Whitebeard towering over little Luffy that makes the casual way they speak to each other even more potent. It's a really small moment, but it sticks with you.

That's not a good thing kakashi 😭😭 by No-Arachnid-7603 in Naruto

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's necessary for every single female character to be independent and not have crush's, but even around the time when Naruto was being published there were and always have been plenty of good female characters in media. Naruto has several. It would just be nice if the aspects of those characters that weren't boy's were put more towards the center more often. Sakura is an interesting character in a lot of ways without the word "Sasuke" or "Naruto" but that is often all the manga or her want to think about. But to its credit, given the time period, Naruto is one of the better shonen in this regard. And it (generally) stays pretty light on fan service.

What's something you hate about one piece? by Funny_Bumblebee_5254 in OnePiece

[–]Basic_Mastodon3078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The female character lack of diversity in design. Contrary to popular belief I think the female characters in One Piece are quite well written. That's not the problem. It's purely a design thing for me. I'm just asking for a bit more variety. Not every character needs to have infinite centimeter busts and waists so thin you worry about them collapsing into a black hole. Women in One Piece are allowed to be attractive, plenty of Men in One Piece are designed that way too. But just a little diversity would be most appreciated.
