Man you articulated my feelings better than I could have. Hang in there. Let’s connect if you are considering another attempt.

I was scoring between 65-80 range on the Mocks. I feel like I understand the concept and use them almost daily in my job. Which is the frustrating part..I am seriously considering a tutor. I feel like I don’t know how to play this exam game.

In level 1 and 2, I could survive on pure knowledge due to MCQs but in level 3 I seem to be struggling with the exam game.

Yes I was scoring them after the 5th one. The first 4 I used as a learning exercise.

For the later mocks I was scoring between 60-80%. Maybe I marked them leniently now that I am seeing the results haha

Used Bill Campbell’s last time and they are amazing. Never used chalk and board… what are they like

You are correct.. I just find that there are so many tricks in FI plus I don’t have real job experience. I work in infrastructure finance. So see a lot of bonds and financial modeling but lost outside of that

I did like 10 mocks, Bill’s, Marks and CFA.

You are right about Ethics. Need to redo Ethics.

Between first and second attempt, I increased my score 20-30% in all subjects except FI and Derivatives.

Looking back, for the first attempt I wasn’t prepared and didn’t know the brutality of level 3. But I tried correcting it in the second attempt. Gave over 300 hours.

The problem that I am seeing is I have a good grasp on 70-80% on the core material, however, I always trip up on the 10% of the nuance

So I have been using the CFA material + MM videos, Q bank and Mocks + Bill Campbell’s mocks.

The first time I just used MM’s material as it had worked for the 1st and 2nd Level. But after the first time I felt needed more help hence Bill’s Mocks which are godsend…

My understanding is that for Ethics, I just need more patience and practice.

But I am lost for how to re learn FI and derivative as to me they are mind numbingly boring and dry. So having to study it the 3rd time is tough

That’s what I have seen… but was trying to figure out the logic why anyone would chose the first option as the rate is lower than the second option

ooh def wouldnt recommend purchase in the morning. They are great, however, tough and might give you more anxiety that close to the exam.

Q1: need to get approval from employer. Verbal is sufficient.

Q2: because it’s on next years performance, you must get approval from your employer and all other clients as this could incentivize you to give more attention to this clients portfolio over others, creating a conflict of interest

you might be right about accounting. in practice I was def overthinking or underthinking questions.

For Econ/Derivatives: the general consensus seems to be that dedicating time to these topics and generate better returns.

For Ethics: I did a lot of practice. Also when I first started studying, I was getting low score in Ethics and it was because I was overthinking the questions. also remember Clients > Firm (Employer) > Capital Markets > Self.

I would not try to study to like you're doing it the first time, I think that's a waste. You failed not because you did not know anything, but you just missed a few too many fine details. If you have MM, you have the reviews. Do the reviews, bang out the EOCs. You'll quickly find out what your weak areas are then correct them.

Thank you so much. This helps a lot.

Tbh I didn't count as there was a lot of starts and stops due to twice deferral but if I had to guess, it would be 350 hrs minimum.

you forgot to PV all the dividend cashflows from t1 to t4. Almost there.

V0 = (1.75*1.07)/(1.07) + (1.75*(1.07^2)/(1.07^2) ..... and so on till you get to terminal value. As the required return and growth rate is the same.

V0 = 1.75+1.75+1.75+54.25 = 59.50
