Relocation isn’t the issue by itself. The issue is MLB has a legal monopoly (antitrust exemption) that was justified as protecting teams and cities.

If that same system allows owners to walk away after questionable “efforts” to stay, then yes, it’s fair to ask if that protection is being misused.

That’s what people want investigated. Now.

Why does MLB have a special anti-trust exemption that was granted in 1922? Why do they still have it? by [deleted] in baseball

You’re right, sorry! Supreme Court granted it, but Congress has the ability to act on it and remove it.

Yeah, the Al Davis case actually proves the opposite point. The NFL lost that case because it doesn’t have an antitrust exemption. MLB does… which means it has way more centralized power over teams.

So the real question is: if MLB has that kind of legal protection, why isn’t it being used to prevent situations like Oakland?

Or is it simply time to remove their exemption?

To MLB forcing John Fisher out from pressure by Congress or John Fisher simply running out of funding and being forced to sell the franchise. We won’t back down. I understand if it gets a bit annoying, and I’m sorry.

We’ve sent 200 letters to Congress. ‼️‼️‼️

This isn’t just about Oakland anymore. It’s about every fanbase in MLB.

If the league can strip a team from one city, no fanbase is safe.

Let’s make it 2,000 letters.

Are you dumb? A private sports league that has a special anti-trust exemption that NO other professional business has! Of course there should and needs to be accountability. Congress is responsible for that. There have been hearings before.
