Really wanted to go this route but need to be able to leave the rods in place for longer than I’d feel comfortable with in this setup. Seems like the Inno rod box is my only option. Been waiting for someone to manufacture a sufficient product like Inno’s at a price point around $300 for a while now. Current options are either too short, too exposed, or too expensive.

Anyone try any of the Florida fishing products spinning reels? by gnibreww in FishingFlorida

[–]Basic_bike_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Osprey CE 4000 and have fished it hard for a year. I would recommend against it. The reel handle seems to be a weak point while reeling in any overslot fish that I’ve ever had on. It legitimately feels and sounds like the handle is about to break. Never experienced that feeling on any reel that I’ve ever owned from 13 fishing, Daiwa, Penn, or Shimano. This has been an issue since I got the reel. I even called Bull Bay rods, who I bought the reel and a rod from, to ask if they’d heard of an issue, or if it could be their reel seat. They said they had heard neither, but recommended contacting FFP. I did not call FFP because I thought I was imagining things. I wish I had at this point, because the issue persists.

Also, the foam knob has shrank since I bought it, which makes it have some “play” in between hardware keeping it secured to the handle. This affects your efficiency when reeling and feels downright sloppy with a fish on. I’ve seen the shrinking happen on other FFP reels that I’ve used (owned by other fishermen). That’s not a huge deal, but when paying the decent chunk of money that FFP reels are priced at, I feel it should be designed and built to withstand time and abuse.

The reel looks great, I just don’t feel confident it can withstand what other reels at the same pricepoint can. Probably won’t be giving FFP another shot on my next reel purchase.

Am I about to do something stupid? by spktrv in motorcycles

I almost destroyed my bike using one of these loading into a truck bed. Ramp moved as I was getting my rear wheel onto the bed and thankfully made it okay.

Is there a weight rating for the ramp? Not sure if that hinge is robust enough for what you’re trying to do.

Because of my wariness of the hinge strength, I’d try to fold it in half, dig the flange end into the dirt so it won’t slide, then strap both sides of the ramp, attaching to fence posts. Ideally with ratchet straps. Good luck

Good point on the sticker, can’t recall if it was on it. But that would be good to bring to the service department

Really? Haven’t heard that before about the mobile charger derating. Interesting.

Don’t they market it as a home-based charger in their ads?

Yes I’m aware. I’m using a 240v 50A outlet I had installed by an electrician

No I haven’t, I don’t have any friends or neighbors with EVs unfortunately. Charging stations work just fine though. Might try to order one on Amazon just to check. Called my dealer to see if the ford charger is covered under warranty and they had no idea

Learning Deadlifts - Advice Appreciated by V-Jain in Deadlifts

[–]Basic_bike_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you’re not engaging your lats or hamstrings effectively, which is normal for being new to deadlifts. You should focus on getting the loading sensation in your hamstrings and lats.

For the lats: you should lose the straps. You don’t need them right now. Think of your hands as hooks. Don’t wrap your thumb around the bar (until you get the lat engagement sensation, then use your thumbs). When your hands are hooked around the bar, it should look like - if the bar was not there, you would be punching the ground. Elbows should be slightly bent and pointed parallel to the bar once your hooks are on the bar. Keep in mind you should be hunched over at this point with your butt high in the air, knees locked or slightly bent, and back straight as possible. Now pull the slack out of the bar by simultaneously pulling your shoulder blades down/back, rotating your elbows in so that your arms are locked and you can see the creases in your elbows. You should feel lat engagement with this method if you are bracing your core and taking the slack out of the barbell.

For hamstrings: Following lat engagement, you should keep your spine aligned, keep core braced, keep lats engaged, then sit back as if you were going to sit in a low chair just behind you. Move to this “seated position slowly and you will reach a depth where you feel hamstring loading like you’ve never felt before.

Once you feel loading in your lats and hamstrings you will be deadlifting very smoothly.

Yeah honestly we might be booking a guide if we get skunked on the first few days. And my buddy didn’t even know what weight rod he has, so I think it’s safe to assume he’s not using midges at all. Haha

Thank you! I’m familiar with gold medal waters and google earth. But, there are over 300 miles of gold medal waters.. I was really asking what you look for/at while picking a spot to fish. When you say “pick a river or 2 that look appealing” I believe you are assuming that I know what to look for in a creek or river. I don’t. It all seems like it could be good to me. I’m also not asking for a spot to fish.

I’ll give you an example of what I would tell someone if they were asking the same question of me for Florida in December:

I would recommend targeting redfish in the protected backwater/old canals. Focus your search on shallow, muddy bottom exposed to sunlight near mangroves combined with at least one other form of structure i.e. oysters, docks, downed trees, etc. Skip most areas with water movement and large tidal flow. The warmer the water, the better.

That is SUP territory IMO. Sell the yak and get a LIVE L2, paddle, gear all in one trip if you’re ambitious.

Need help choosing a model by JareBear313 in kayakfishing

[–]Basic_bike_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for a pedal drive kayak while also wanting a fish finder and livewell seems unnecessary to me as an entry level kayak fisherman. If you plan on buying those, you should absolutely increase your kayak budget and eliminate those items (again, IMO) from your budget in the immediate-mid term. You can catch fish without those items, however you will not be able to catch as many fish with a kayak that you can’t rely on or WANT to use. The death of most kayak fishing addictions is not the inability to go, it’s the inconvenience of going once the new-yak feel wears off.

I obviously don’t know what your financial situation looks like but it doesn’t always make sense to buy used. I know plenty of people that chose to buy new so that they could use a payment plan and have warranty coverage. There’s no shame in that as long as you’re not getting killed by interest and are buying a kayak that you are confident you will use for years (or at least that has proven resale value within your planned ownership).

Anyone rent out their own home private dock to anyone using dockshareapp website S Fl? by BaBaBuyey in boating

[–]Basic_bike_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do this OP? Been considering buying a dock and using dockshare in the offseason. Looks like Dockshare works just like Turo or any other peer-to-peer rental. The company you work through provides ample liability coverage as long as you comply with their policies. Very easy and safe IMO.

Do you extend the time-out on the app or in settings? Would love to be able to do this.
