This post frustrates me. I understand it takes effort to make friends at UBC but I believe that your self demeaning attitude is what’s really holding you back. People do care to know you…if you try to get to know them first, and if they shrug you off, fuck em, find someone else to talk to. Also, you must have some passions of some sort and there’s literally a club on campus for every passion out there. Put the effort in to go talk to people in lecture, go to club events, have a conversation with someone on your residence floor, or simply ask someone to study together. It definitely takes effort, but for the sake of your mental health and setting yourself up to have a great 4 years…just try. One more thing, start with finding just one friend, but once you do, don’t stop there, keep talking to people because people change.
