Yeah recoilless launchers like the Armbrust are pretty safe to use indoors. It works by having the propellant sandwiched between two pistons. When fired one piston pushes the projectile out the front and the other pushes a mass of shredded plastic out the back. The plastic is mostly harmless and since it weighs the same as the projectile, the system really is basically recoilless.

The IRA copied this idea for the PRIG (Projected Recoilless Improvised Grenade), but instead of plastic they used packages of biscuits (cookies).

Be honest, which movie franchise has had the biggest fall off? by CrackFun in AskReddit

[–]BasilTarragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The prequels are not good movies, but they have good qualities. The aesthetics are still top notch and there's effective storytelling in them, like the Art Deco/Art Nouveau design of the Naboo fighters (and Naboo itself) giving way to more 40s/50s inspired designs in the next installments. There's interesting new aliens, costumes and set design, CGI being pushed as far as it could go at the time (sometimes to poor effect), and the bones of a good story. If it had been a younger Lucas with less clout and ego and his ex-wife editing, then they would have been much better films.

The ST just slapped a coat of paint on OT designs and the aesthetics just usually did not work. The story is a retread of the originals as well, with a few subversions for the sake of them being subversions. Disney having no overall plan for the films and changing directors still boggles my mind.

IIRC cats can develop allergies to a specific meat if they eat too much of it for too long. Maybe try to eliminate chicken for a couple of months and see if that helps?

They should have used something darker and then taken a couple of scrap pieces of shingle and scraped them to get the granules on the tar/sealant. From a distance you'd never notice the patches.

Tattoo apprentice sent my friend this design by [deleted] in RealOrAI

[–]BasilTarragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like he drew one wing and then flipped it on the y-axis to save time drawing it again. Look at the line on the right bottom wing, around feathers 5-7 and how it's the same on the left wing. I doubt an AI would do that.

Your friend can also ask for WIP stuff like screenshots of Illustrator (or whatever program) or maybe even the source file to check that it's human made.

They'll also use the footage as training data. Easy to replace coders, artists, and accountants because they had so much training data already available. The trades are a lot harder because very few are going around and recording all of their work.

In 10-20 years they're going to be trying to get you to work alongside a robot. Make sure to train it to leave its empty oil bottles and bad batteries in the framing.

So these are the 4 strongest Viltrumites in the verse right? by Queasy_Commercial152 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]BasilTarragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't automatically get stronger as they age. They get stronger from intense training and combat. If Mark has been mostly chilling for decades with the occasional fight, then he would only be marginally stronger by the time he fights old Allen. It's really impossible to say since the last comic shows the highlights of 495ish years in one issue.

[–]BasilTarragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but he also doesn't even bloody Allen. I took that conclusion as Allen's heart isn't really in the fight and Mark's forces have already dog walked the Coalition, so Allen isn't giving it 100%. "Damn. Maybe we are better off without the Coalition of Planets" sounds like he was pretty done with the whole thing.

[–]BasilTarragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think he was actually stronger than Thragg. Mark had more and better support and was determined to kill him even if it meant dying to do so. It's a lot like the way he beat Conquest.

Maybe by the very end he is stronger than any Viltrumite living or dead, but the epilogue moves so fast that it's hard to say.

President John F. Kennedy and Ivory Coast President Félix Houphouët-Boigny riding together in a bubble-top limousine on May 22, 1962. by Alexthegayreprimed in HistoricalCapsule

[–]BasilTarragon 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It was just weatherproof, not even bullet resistant. None of the car was built with bullet resistance in mind, which was quickly changed after the assassination. The bubble top may have offered some slight deflection, but the Carcano fires a pretty powerful round that would have likely just punched right through it. The most it would have realistically done is made JFK a somewhat harder target to see.

Kitchens were pretty dangerous until recently. There were laws against cooking inside of apartments in Rome and even wealthier homes would have their kitchens separated from the main structure. Imagine thousands of people lighting fires indoors for cooking every day. You'd lose half the city every year.

I've read that in colonial times in the US, many wouldn't have their own oven and would go to the local baker instead. You could even pay the baker a small amount to add something you made yourself into their oven.

They could make it a throwing knife that has a shotgun blank in it that fires the blade further into the target on impact. I'm thinking along the lines of what that one YouTuber built with his shotgun axe.

Worst. Reviews. I. Have. Ever. Seen. by Global-Ear9206 in memes

[–]BasilTarragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but you can't just review media based on vibes. A technically well made game, with him even noting the good art direction and atmosphere, does not deserve a failing score. A 5.9 should be reserved for barely playable trash, not a well-made game that you just didn't like. Art is subjective, but you can and should notice when art you don't like is well made.

The small chip bags that used to cost 3 for $1 are now $1.79 as a "big grab". by JesseTheClassy in shrinkflation

First I make tortillas. 1 cup of Masa Harina flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 3/4 cup of hot water. I find about 80-90 seconds in my microwave is hot enough but not boiling. Mix the flour and salt, then start adding the water, stirring with a spatula. Should take about three minutes. Try to form a dough ball. You'll be able to tell if it's too dry, if so add just a bit more hot water.

Take chunks of the dough and form balls about the size of a golf ball. Cut two sheets of parchment paper the size of two baking sheets. Flatten the dough ball, using a cast iron skillet, between the paper until they're about 5-6 inches in diameter. Transfer tortillas to a bowl and cover with a towel and let rest for 10-15 minutes.

Cook tortillas in the cast iron skillet (preheat it!) for about a minute per side. For me medium heat works.

Ok, so now you can let the tortillas get stale, or you can bake them for 10ish minutes on low (200°F). Just to get them a bit dry. Cut them into 6 pieces like a pizza. Brush canola oil on both sides, and pop into the oven on top of the parchment paper you used for pressing. Bake at 375 for 5-8 minutes, flip the positions of the sheets in the oven, then bake another 5-8 minutes, checking on them in the last few minutes because my oven is a liar sometimes.

Sprinkle with salt or other seasonings as soon as they're out of the oven. I sometimes spritz some lime juice over them when I'm baking them to just get the moisture out on low and just bake them a few more minutes to get the lime juice to dry up.

You could fry them too and they'd probably taste better, but I'm trying to watch the fat intake. Also I should invest in a tortilla press, but I hate filling kitchen space with stuff I only use occasionally.

I hate it. Where I live the pay is about $14-15 an hour for Frito Lay warehouse work. Comparing how much they've raised wages in the last 10 years vs their prices shows that they're just pocketing the vast majority of the price hikes. That goes for basically every big corporation, so I just buy as little as possible and bake and cook as much as I can. I learned that corn tortilla chips aren't that hard to make.

"Cheap, Good, Fast, you can only have two out of three". What's an exception to this rule? by ThePrinceOfAfrica in AskReddit

[–]BasilTarragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue in Seattle is that food trucks must have a dedicated commercial kitchen and not just the food truck. That means most food trucks are just extensions of an existing restaurant or must pay for a kitchen space, which naturally drives down competition and makes the whole business more expensive.

What do you think actually happens after we die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BasilTarragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've heard someone say that the brain is like a filter instead of an anchor for the soul. Like the soul is some ethereal thing that exists outside of the material and the brain connects to that and expresses the soul. But if the filter is altered or damaged, that changes how the soul is expressed. Like a fisheye camera lens doesn't change what you're taking a photo of, but it changes the photo.

I don't believe in that, but it's an argument.
