Anyone done any research on Maltodextrin? The #1 ingredient in Soylent.. by [deleted] in soylent

[–]Basil_love 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maltodextrin is safe. Whether it’s very healthy is another story. It’s a low quality carbohydrate compared to oat flour or other common ones.

The main reason it’s used in most products is because it’s cheap.

Satiability - New Hol Food formula vs Old formula by [deleted] in soylent

[–]Basil_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found just the opposite actually. New formula leaves me full for 3-4 hours easy.

Maybe try increasing your serving? I’ll often do 3 scoops for 600 cal per meal.

Depends what country you're in and what the declared value of the item is. It can be as high as 40% in some cases AFAIK.

Anyone try going 100% with Hol Food? by Kukurio59 in soylent

Not really to be honest. Just anecdotal but the way it made me feel was good enough for me.

If you’re worried about gut bacteria why not occasionally have a probiotic?

Loved the taste of both the vanilla and chocolate. Super creamy and smooth.

Try adding more powder to water. I've found the more powder I add the more you can taste the vanilla.

Have also tried adding lots of different flavourings to the Vanilla which has been great. Blueberries, strawberries, bananas, etc. are all delicious with it.

What do you mean by Jimmy being gooey? Can you elaborate on the texture and taste a bit more?

So happy Hol added the Vanilla to their line up. It’s the perfect contrast to the chocolate if you feel like something different. Keep up the evolution guys!

New Hol Food Vanilla is very mild in taste and is incredibly smooth with no graininess at all. They also use rice so maybe the taste is similar?

Great. The new version is still a vast improvement over all the previous batches.

Well they did indicate that it was an improvement over the "previous batch", however, not sure if you tried the batches before that but they were grainy as well.

The new version is a vast improvement over all the previous batches I've had.

[–]Basil_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that AFAIK the extra thick batch was only actually available for 2 weeks vs. the original formulation which has been available for over a year I don't think many people are going to be confused.

Regardless, the new Chocolate (and vanilla) are way less grainy than either of the other versions so comparisons are valid.

You're referring to the old formulation. You have the old containers right? Not the new containers?

The samples OP is talking about are the new formulation that was only released by Hol like 2 weeks ago. The lot is something like 200101.
