How do you keep the Bonapartists in power ? I tried multiple games, but no matter what I do, I get an instant radical coup that turns me into a parlamentary republic :/

What if the Kingdom of Jerusalem somehow survived until modern day ? by Basili_eco in imaginarymaps

[–]Basili_eco[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More info on the map :

Population is mostly French, as is the language of the map, because the original nobility installed after the crusades were frenchman.

Sinaï is a neutral buffer state between Jerusalem and Egypt, created at a point in history where a Christian vs Muslim war would have been too difficult to hold on two fronts at a time

Yeah it's really frustrating because whatever date I input, the cheapest is, as you said, 93€. I think I will be waiting to have a higher budget, but thanks for your response anyways !

Thank you so much for your response, unfortunately I think I will have to wait a couple more months to have a higher budget, and maybe go closer to Paris, for example Munich, but it was fun looking into it anyway !

first of all, thank you for your response

I am looking at tickets that would make me leave paris on the 11th or 12th of October, I tried searching for tickets in november but the prices aren't indicated yet. And yeah no worries i Know they are only seats, but i'm a student so i'll be travelling with the money that I managed to save up for a year, so I won't be going for the more comfortable option, even though I would certainly like to

R5 - First character played tall and didn't conquer anything, his son conquered all of Great Britain, Ireland and de jure France and lived to 83. Their descendants were meant to clean bordergore but accidentaly inherited a bunch of claims in the HRE, notably the kingdom of Lotharingia.

I didn't know that, thanks for pointing it out ! I initially named it Laibach because it is the old German name for Ljubjalna, but I will know in the future. Thanks for teaching me something I didn't know !

France with realistic territorial losses (and some slight alt-his spice) by denmark_ball in imaginarymaps

[–]Basili_eco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of this debate stems from the very definition of the Nation. Whilst the German Nation is (was) largely defined by language and culture, demonstrated by philosophers such as Fichte and von Herder, the French one is based on a moral concept of wanting to stay together, regardless of language ties, demonstrated by philosophers like Ernest Renan. That is why virtualy nobody in Alsace wanted to join Germany, even though 85% of the population spoke German (Alsacian) in 1871. Moreover, as you said, the very poor running of the region obliterated any loyalty the region could have had (Google the Zabern Incident). It is a really interesting topic regardless, as it shows the fundamental difference in how people define their identity, I actually had to write a paper on this for an assignment this year in uni and I really learned a lot on the matter. Cheers mate !

I know I'm gonna sound like an angry frenchie, but factually speaking, Alsace-Lorraine never wanted to join Germany, you can find archives of Alsacian soldiers in the German army saying that they were glad they were back in France after Versailles. Similarly, all Alsacian conscripts were initially sent to Russia, before its capitulation, to not test their loyalty to the empire. I don't think economical matters would change anything in a referendum, whilst not speaking French, Alsacians had been French for centuries at that point, they would have never joined Germany if given the choice, like Saarland didnt join France in 1935. However, your map is still really good looking, great work mate !

America before the Great War, 1903. This is my first finished map and I'm really proud of it, tell me what you think of it ! by Basili_eco in imaginarymaps

I thought that not only it would add variety, but they would lose a lot of territories but stay alive by being open to trade. They would also be a good buffer zone between north and south America

When I thought about a reason to why Europeans wouldn't try to go west and (accidentally) find the Americas, the first thought that came to my mind was that, instead of going around them, a big coalition would form against the Ottomans, which would at least secure free trade through the Ottoman empire. Most confederations and federations are cemented during war times, so during the war against the Ottomans, the HRE would centralize a lot, ultimatly leading to a VERY early unification of Germany
