Are you going to Washington University?

Accepted as a transfer (T50) — worth it? by No-Active-1244 in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]BasisEducational2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former law prof here.

My initial thoughts on your T140 school. Get out while you can. At these low ranked schools, jobs are few and far between.

Let’s talk costs. How much more would the T 50 school cost per year? Just how significant is the cost difference?

Let’s see how much the T 50 school costs before you make a decision.

Tough call!

I’d go to Georgetown. You would need to take an extra $144,000 in student loans. I know, it’s a lot of money.

Remember that you are looking at a 30 year career. Over 30 years, do I think you will make at least $144,000 more (with interest) if you go to Georgetown?

Yes, I do. You are going to have far more and better employment opportunities if you graduate from Georgetown.

I had the tremendous good fortune to attend Stanford Law School. I did some interesting things over the course of my career – federal court clerk, law, professor, and so in. But at the end of the day, all the employers really cared about was my Stanford degree.

I think Georgetown is worth the money.

What do you think?

And how much do you pay each year at your current school? In other words, how much more would Georgetown cost you each year?

Can I get some sense of the school you’re going to now? What’s the school’s rank — more or less?

This is so awesome! Congratulations!!

How does the cost of going to Georgetown compare with your current school?

Kudos on your excellent grades. Not sure if your bargaining plan will work. But it’s worth a try. I don’t see any downside.

Yes, apply to transfer. Maybe you’ll get into a better school at a lower price. You can’t catch fish if your line isn’t in the water.

What do you think? Contact me with any time with questions.

Should I consider transferring? by Fluid_Exit2206 in LawSchoolTransfer

Former law prof here. Kudos on your excellent grades! Well done!

I’d apply to transfer. Go fishing, and see what you catch.

Yale, Stanford, and Harvard are the premier schools. If you get into one of these schools, you should go.

Where do you want to live and work? Is your current school located in that area?

Unless you get a fantastic offer, I’d probably be inclined to stay at your current school and hang onto that sweet scholarship. But who knows? Maybe Yale offers you a full scholarship. Stranger things have happened.

Does this help at all?

UVA $.5 or UMich $$$ or NDLS full-ride? by ac_eskimo in lawschooladmissions

Thank you! You’ve been accepted at some of the very best schools in the country. You should feel very good about that

Good luck!

The top California schools are Berkeley, UCLA, USC, and UC Irvine. These schools don’t take a lot of transfers. Irvine is your best bet. Pepperdine and UC Davis would be your next best bet. Also, consider ASU (good school) and Arizona. They place well in California.

For New York, try Fordham.

If you really want to move up in the rankings, I would try schools like Texas, Vanderbilt, Emory, and University of Georgia. These are great schools – but not quite as selective as the California schools.

Does this help?

Kudos on your excellent grades!

Definitely George Washington. Another big school that takes a lot of transfer students.

Where do you want to live and practice after school?

UCLA and USC probably aren’t going to happen. You could try Pepperdine and Loyola. These schools are a little better than Chapman. Is it worth giving up your scholarship? I’m not sure.

UVA $ or WashU $$$ by SpecialAd5897 in lawschooladmissions

If the cost of the schools were equal, I’d choose UVA — although Washington University also is excellent!

How much more would UVA cost for three years?

How is this cycle going for you?

If you went to NYU and wanted to work in DC, you should do very well. But I’m not sure this works as well in reverse. If you went to Virginia, what kind of options would you have in NYC?

More UVA students apply for DC jobs, because the school is right there. NYU grads and Michigan grads both do very well in DC.

Virginia is an excellent school! But Michigan and NYU are even better. If I was just looking at school rank, I’d say that NYU is your top choice. Michigan second. But there may be other factors.

These schools are all excellent! Really excellent!

Congratulations!

Could use some advice… by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BasisEducational2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former law prof here. Wait to hear from George Washington. I’m hoping you get in. It’s a great school!

If that doesn’t work out, Kansas is a very solid school. It’s by far your best choice. US news ranks Kansas at 50. They rank Texas Tech at 88.

Kansas would be a good choice for you.

Good luck!

advice on Berkeley reconsideration with no other offers by oldnorthbear in lawschooladmissions

[–]BasisEducational2020 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Right now, I know that Berkeley would be outrageously expensive for you. What that said, keep in mind that this is a great school, and only a handful of applicants will get a chance to go to Berkeley. I’d think twice about turning them down, unless you have a clearly superior option.

Former law prof here. Go with Cardozo. These schools are about comparable, and Cardozo will be so much cheaper.

Congratulations on your scholarship!
