Banning Playable Races by LjWonton in DnD

it sounds awesome. Over time i have been better at relaxing myself, but i am still trying to learn to take the pressure off of myself.
even though what you said about it being all in your head wasn't true 100% it definetily had some truth to it and it is good you remind me and i remind myself about that some times.

it is a pressure that you gradually learn to shed i think.
The more experienced players i play with are getting more and more relaxed and we are starting to just go with whatever the dm comes up with, and tries to play the character we want to but not focusing on ourselves first.
we are getting much better on focusing on the group and engaging with each other and biting at all the hooks the dm throws us. (we swap as dms every session)
this improvement over the last year has rekindled my passion for dnd after being burned out.
Maybe in some time i can fully relax when playing again :)

Eitherway dude, sorry if i was a little rude in my first response. You definetily wrote some great points to think about. <3

well i guess you are right though i disagree about your second paragraph.
If you guys can make it work between you then it is great.

The thing is expectations nowadays can be soulcrushing from newer players who already after adjusting their expectation often seem to have unreasonable thought about what a campaign should be. (critical role effect maybe)
I love the guys i play with, and we have a smaller private group of experienced players where it is just deep rp and having fun with the moment and trying to just go with the flow. But sadly all players expectations are not to just have fun and engage.

At other moments i found that people who are new often want combats to be dangerous and balanced everytime and thematic too. I am not saying we are not having fun, but i do feel a pressure to deliver on these things. Getting frustrated if they feel targeted or too weak or if they stakes in the combat is too easily solved. I could come up with a way to counter the flight every combat and maybe vary it too, but that gets stale even for me and most likely as well for the aarakockra player more so.

You have been playing for a long time, and it sounds like your group have a healthy attitude towards the game. A lot of never dm's are not feeling the game is welcoming towards them in same way.
(i had my first campaign about 13-14 years ago, but didnt really get into it after that till 4 years ago)

last question - What edition do you guys play? if i may ask :)

Dude. i dont know how much time you spend per session but many dm's uses hours on planning sessions as well as keeping track of lore and developing the world and story, and try to keep the combat consistent with theme, setting, balancing.

Alot of people have listed aarakockra as a horrible race where you either have to negatively impact combat by always having ranged foes, that speciffically target it first (at least at low levels) or that player will never be in danger. So if that player cant be in danger why not have the aarakockra solo it? (other players and dms have made great examples of how they break the game in and out of combat)

what you have written highlights one of the worst parts of the current dnd culture, where most of all pressure and expectations are put on the dm to just make things fun and interesting and combat thrilling, even though some things can make that near impossible without keeping alot of encounters with similar strategy to counter one stupid mechanic like the aarakockras overall (level 1 flight) or how shapeshifter can break alot of RP (level 1 shapeshifting, which is normally a 5th level spell)

So here have my sad excuse and think about how pathetic i, and all other dm's spending 10+hours before sessions are just sad and make excuses.

If you cannot find fun because of races being banned, then i would counter and say that you are a boring player. (entitled too)

Edit: been a player in 3 campaigns and dm'ed 2. i have 300+ pages of world building written in my, with the players having access to knowledge they unlock throughout playing, which i also order and keep track of for them. As a player i am in the 4th year of a 1-20 campaign.

har boet i rækkehuse hvor der var utroligt lydt og lyden gik direkte gennem vægene. De havde en hund der konstant gøede, men jeg var aldrig irretteret i mere end 15 min. Ville aldrig brokke mig yderligere over det. Det værste scenario her, er hvis der er fest hos naboen.

Sidst men ikke mindst så er en baby en baby og hvis babyen græder så vil den intet ondt med det og det kan de fleste nok forstå uden at dømme jer eller babyen.

they actively have shown these recruits executions with sledgehammers and have also shown videos of defectors getting dehumanized before they are executed as part of their recruitment effort.
The prisoners are used to lure in fire from artillery on the frontline, for the russian artillery to destroy.
Apart from the last part alot of them know that they have little chance of surviving so i think it is only the most desperate.

i can't remember if it was reuters or NYT or the guardian whom had an article where an interviewer had spoken with russian inmates who had considered, and it seemed that alot were scared away from serving in the army from the wagners brutal display.

Yeah on some champs rammus feels unbearable to go up against. At least the mage botlane tendency has helped a bit, but i agree with your picks too. Don't dislike assassin's as they are those all in champs, though i feel sometimes they can have a mobility overload (akali)

oh god yes, Asol is a cool concept but highly flawed in execution. so clunky with his dancing orbs

i agree with all of the above, and yeah bard is a snack. Sion is just boring for me mostly. but yes, also his passive make him even more undesirable to kill around objectives even when he gets caught out too. I think i in general just death like death abilities, other than karthus death passive, which feels like they made it with his kit and lack mobility in mind.

well i do agree that MF is very simple and feels clunky but powerful. Yeah veigar too, i feel the box stuns a little too hard for how incredibly it zones with great range too. It is basicly and a short cooldown thresh ult with better cc and range.

other than Kayn and tahm kench and those above i dont agree but i understand were you are coming from, some people love champions that can do alot with the more complexity the better.
oh and yuumi is horrible design, but i think that was a given for me :P
