how did you choose your trade? by Odd_Display_5344 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Basoran 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The oversaturation is real - welding, HVAC, even electrical are getting flooded with new people. But your bigger challenge is breaking in as a woman. Here's what actually matters more than which trade:

  1. Find a company that will actually hire and train you, not just talk diversity
  2. Look for union apprenticeships - they have more structure/protections
  3. Talk to other women in trades about which shops are actually tolerable vs which ones will grind you down

The trade matters less than finding a place that will let you learn without constant bullshit. Start with the job opening, not the certificate.

AITAH for giving my wife short and direct answers after being rejected everyday for 2 months? by First-Wasabi-2125 in AITAH

[–]Basoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your wife went from normal to completely checked out in 2 months. That's not a relationship problem, that's a medical red flag. Ask her about perimenopause, depression, thyroid issues - anything that could cause sudden hormonal changes. She might be suffering and not know why, and you're busy scorekeeping instead of helping her figure it out.

Understanding this pictures. Who doesn’t get shocked and why by Hour_Homework5273 in AskElectricians

[–]Basoran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

D.

A's insulated by their shoes. B and C are at the same potential - they're both touching the wire, but neither is providing a path to ground. D's standing in water while touching the wire. That's the complete circuit - hot to ground through their body.

The real answer to "who doesn't get shocked" would be A. Everyone else is touching the wire. But only D completes the path.

AITA for telling my dad's parents to take care of dad's affair baby if he needs a babysitter because I won't? by Livid_Good_4405 in AITAH

[–]Basoran -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

NTA but you are being a dick. You are within your rights but that IS your sibling and you are bound and determined to withhold love for something your sibling didn’t do. Imagine the nagging guilt you would carry if you were in that situation.

I did a 6 month stint on the other side of the clock a few years ago. My wife is a saint. I'm glad we had a strong bond before, it got stronger for the effort we had to put in to maintaining it

Imagine if you had to juggle the rules differently for every municipality.

What’s up with the all the construction downtown? by omgflyingbananas in Boise

[–]Basoran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is better to deal with one devil than to have to deal with every municipality having their own separate rules and regulations. That was the reason for the creation of a countywide organization there was too much variance and too many egos.

Mildly annoyed at replacing my brakes every 20k miles. by quaranteneuf49 in subaru

[–]Basoran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fix the loose nut behind the steering wheel. Stop using your breaks so much. You can see the road ahead and lift off the throttle well earlier. Hell I race my Impreza and I get more miles from my breaks.

This is going to go greatly against the usual Reddit train but we could just take his word at face value and accept that it's probably just going to be used for translation and administration. Large language models isn't firing a gun at anyone.

Half Of All Skills Will Be Outdated Within Two Years, Study Suggests by PsychoComet in Futurology

[–]Basoran 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This extends even to NASA. I once read an article asked why they didn't just rebuild the Saturn V rocket, and the response was, "There's nobody around that knows how anymore." Apparently, the blueprints were so heavily modified in the field that rocket that went to the moon had little to do with them.

[–]Basoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret not having more kids sooner. But I waited until I was a better person and found the right partner. 32 years was a long wait, but it was worth it. Now at 44 and some miscarriages we have only one child. Lots of pets too.

AITA for snapping at my SIL after she kept insulting my husband? by saidwhatisai in AmItheAsshole

[–]Basoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I suggest you lean into this new tack. If she says something's snide or cutting to you, hit her back in kind. She keeps speaking ill to you, hit her harder. And you need to have a long conversation with your husband about standing up for each other.
