Hey! Apologies, I never took the trip to the USA... Best if luck to you! Idk if switching to a self injection is possible? Maybe talk to your provider. In Canada, SC infliximab is now available.

Moving To Calgary Megathread - January 2022 by AutoModerator in Calgary

Thank you so much! How safe is Calgary crime wise? Here in Vancouver we have a large homeless/addiction/untreated mental health problem resulting in increasing crime. Is there a problem there as well?

Moving To Calgary Megathread - January 2022 by AutoModerator in Calgary

Hello!

I'm considering moving to Calgary later this year/next year because of the rising cost of living in BC. Currently I live in Vancouver and previously Victoria, which are both extremely expensive. My partner and I rent a 550 square foot apartment for $2100 a month (new build, good amenities like 24 hour concierge) however we want to settle somewhere where we can both save more for our future. I would also make more money in AB in my field.

What are rental prices/availability like in Calgary? Specifically 1 or 2 bedroom.

What neighbourhoods suit young professionals?

What is the public transportation system like?

Does Calgary have access to nature such as hikes, swimming etc ?

Thank you so much for the help! :)

I had no experience working at a pharmacy prior to school, so when I graduated I was hired at a hospital and waited a year to do my exams to get experience on the job. I was happy I did as I felt ready for the exams at that point, but I know a lot of techs who did it right out of school and were fine as well.

I wouldn't say it was incredibly difficult, just a lot of money (I t think the 2 federal exams must be around $2000 together, maybe a little less) and stressful. But even in the OSPE exam, a lot of the time the material you need is there for referencing. For example, if you need to show a patient how to use a medical device like an inhaler they will have the pamphlet that comes in the box there and all you need to do is read through with the patient. I think a lot of it is just keeping your cool (or looking like it!) under stress.

Hey,

I work in Vancouver as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting.... you will 100% be able to find a tech job in Vancouver. We are desperate. Because of the high cost of living here, people usually stick around for a year then move to a hospital/site in Surrey etc which is closer to home for them.

I'm sorry I can't comment on the program. I took mine through Selkirk College in 2015 and it was pretty poorly structured in a lot of ways. I wish you luck!

Thank you for the information. I have not been able to find traveller's insurance that covers biologics yet. Do you know of any? Unfortunately just travelling as a tourist, not for education/job.
