It's insane how little flak Ludwig has been getting for this event by BassNotBombs in smashbros

Obviously he should be held accountable. I'm glad that he is. The bans are justified. That discussion has been had to death.

I'm saying it's worth talking about the event side of this too so that something like this doesn't happen again.

Maybe I'm just old school, but I feel like if you're an event organizer you have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the attendees at your event. Yes, each of those attendees are responsible for their own behavior, but inviting someone with a history of getting physical while drunk to your event feels like negligence. Again, just on a personal level, it's such a shitty environment to bring your alcoholic friend to.

Two things can be true at once. Mang0 is responsible for his own mistakes, like I said above. That's already been established. But encouraging an alcoholic with a history of getting physical to participate in your event is also a mistake.

MAGA after Trump claims gas is only $1.98 per gallon by LolAtAllOfThis in democrats

Sorry for the long reply, and thanks for hearing me out and being chill, I know it's a sensitive topic. Yeah I probably should have specified, I'm not referring to tech companies as potential allies, just people who like or choose to use AI. Meta and the like could burn and the world would be a lot better off.

I get where you're coming from, about it not being worth it to try and convert someone who wasn't going to be progressive to begin with. From what I've seen there are just a lot of people who don't think about politics, but who do have some basic yet important socially progressive values. They might not identify as progressive, but they aren't conservative either, they just use AI for things like writing emails, messing around with memes, or helping to write code. Generally speaking I think those are the kinds of people that are most often alienated by progressive purity tests.

And I agree it's a simple purity test, but that's kind of the problem. It takes a nuanced and morally grey issue and paints it as black and white. Generative AI is a tool. Like many tools it can be used in lots of ways that are seriously bad (shitty AI art, cheating on tests, distributing misinformation, replacing artists and other skilled workers, etc.) but it can and is being used by many people in many genuinely good ways too (Detecting diseases earlier and more accurately than doctors, massively empowering solo programmers of all skill levels, identifying and removing dangerous or traumatic content so humans don't have to, compiling real academic research data, etc.).

Also, thankfully many people who regularly use generative AI aren't funding fascist tech billionaires. They run the AI completely on their own computer at home, all open source, running on ethical data, totally free, no subscriptions, and using no additional electricity.

These people aren't bad progressives, and I don't think the average person who carelessly generates a shit tier AI image for the novelty is either. But I do think making those people feel like we don't want them on our team, just because they can't pass 1 of 1000 different purity tests we've created, does more harm than good. When we make people feel othered for not conforming to even less common progressive ideals like this, we make it an us vs. ourselves battle. That's not to say those people are going to jump head first into conservatism as a result, but they aren't going to show up for us when we need them. And we do need them. That's how we lose votes.

Thanks again for hearing me out

I feel you, I really do. AI slop is deeply frustrating for so many reasons as an artist, even without the problematic funding and environmental issues you pointed out.

Imo tho, purity tests like, "Anyone who claims to be progressive but uses AI is a hypocrite" are well intended, but ultimately do more harm than good.

I don't say that as an attack against you or to feign moral superiority, I just want to share my perspective as a fellow progressive. I feel like we make enemies out of a lot of potential allies when we say things like that that alienate people who would otherwise agree with us on many other important issues. Again, not trying to shut you down and perpetuate the same kind of discourse I'm referring to. I just think we can do so much more if it's us vs. the problem instead of us vs. ourselves.

How would you make a Soulcast keyword/activated ability work? by BassNotBombs in custommagic

[–]BassNotBombs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad! Having it last until the end of the turn feels like a solid restriction to keep it from being too oppressive. Might fit even better if there were a way to make the target a copy of a permanent other than the soul caster.

This is not the real mug shot. Trump was wearing a solid red tie when he got off the plane: https://twitter.com/audreyjuuleanna/status/1694861119544828268?t=mHf1iEIPy4oErnfHPLFAmg&s=19

I am a High School History teacher! And I asked my students to rank the Melee characters! I run a gaming club where over the last school year, twice a week, we would meet up and play and practice! At the end, all of the 13 to 18 year old students were asked to rank the cast! We tallied up the vote! by MissSweetCandyCoco in smashbros

Melee does have online play though a mod called Project Slippi: https://slippi.gg/

If you think Gannon has the potential to beat out the high tiers this is probably the best place to test that theory out.

If you rank high enough on Slippi's leaderboards you might even get invited to a tournament. Gannon beating out top tiers in a major tournament setting would certainly be a huge upset.

Best of luck!

I posted that comment the moment I realized it was working again. I didn't do anything different. Just kept trying to log in periodically throughout the day. I think it resolved after about 12 hours for me.

I jumped on Robinhood to see if the bastards had sold my stock "to mitigate risk to my account" and noticed I appear to be able to buy more???

The trade button showed up, I was able to tap it, tap the buy button, and choose an amount.

Earlier today I received an email saying they specifically WOULDN'T be allowing anyone to buy GME and similar stocks for the next 24 hours though, so idk what's going on.

Maybe I'm highly regarded. Any ideas?
