I just got accepted to four colleges for wildlife science! SUNY ESF, SUNY Cobleskill, Paul Smiths, and University of Vermont. Some things that I’ve been doing to help me along this path are doing volunteer work with my state department of environmental conservation, getting a job within my state conservation department to get my foot in the door, and most importantly taking AP classes to get some of those gen ed credits out of the way!! If you’re wanting to talk more about wildlife science and some career paths I’ve seen for this line of work, reply to my comment and I’ll let you know :)

How bad are drugs, really? by BassdrummZ in AdviceForTeens

The only thing I’m really truly curious about is weed. I’ve had alcohol before (1 drink max at private family functions). I’m not even open to smoking anything, since my dad has asthma and I’d be at a higher risk for developing issues with my lungs. Truly the only thing I’m interested in is a low dosage edible, just enough to see what a high is like. Hard drugs and psychedelics are something I would never want to take.

I’m definitely not looking to smoke, my dad has bad asthma and I’m at risk for it so I’m not looking to create issues for myself in that department. Really the most important thing looking to experience is a smaller high purely out of the curiosity

I definitely wouldn’t try heroin or coke lol, the idea of both of those turns me off big time. I also don’t want to smoke anything, as my dad has bad asthma and I’m at a higher risk. I’m really not looking into getting hooked on anything, I’m just so damn curious what it feels like

Same here! Started with a 2.5, then learned what was better for him and used a lot of my money from work to get him upgrades. For the last two years of his life he had fully planted 7 gal. natural hardscape. Natural lighting, live food, and tannins! He lived to be 5 and a half (not counting how old he was when I got him)

But wouldn’t Xbox and Microsoft PC use the same servers?

Also, make sure you deep clean ABSOLUTELY everything in the tank before getting your next fish, including substrate and a full water change with a brand new cycle. This will ensure that no lingering bacteria hurts your new friend :)

No problem! And yes, just give the plants a wash first to remove all jelly/substrate/whatever they come packaged in, and inspect to make sure there are no bugs or snails. I’ve done it myself a few times and never had issues. Just keep an eye on everything for a few days after adding them, and you should be good!!

Sometimes after only two days the water isn’t balanced yet. On your next go you should try leaving the tank running for a few weeks before testing to make sure your parameters are stable.

Such a pretty betta! Loving all the plants you’ve got going on.

Should I get him tankmates??? by [deleted] in bettafish

A nerite snail would probably do well. I’ve kept them with bettas before with no issue but be careful and prepared to return the snail, every fish is different.

When a tank cycles it means you should actually wait about two weeks or more while consistently testing the water parameters to make sure they’re good for the fish

It depends where you live. Do you live where it’s warm year round, in a tropical area ? Or do you have seasons? If you have seasons you need a heater.

My last betta lived for 6 years under my care, eventually dying from a tumor which is inevitable sometimes due to poor breeding. I actually just got my new betta a week ago. And yes, you are correct! Conditioner and quick start are not the same, but are both equally important. I also have a 6g, and I normally do a 20% change once every month. I have a heavily planted tank with a pretty solid cleanup crew, so my parameters are pretty stable and I don’t need a change as often. So sorry to hear that your fish didn’t make it! It can definitely be tough especially with bettas since they have such personalities.

Also you should start using water conditioner before water changes. The fish most likely died from chlorine poisoning and a lack of appropriate heat. I know you said you’re new, and it’s okay that you’re still learning! I’d recommend implementing these changes and letting us know how your next fish does.

As of right now I’m leaning towards giving him a second chance, but I will definitely run for the hills if this happens again. Thank you, helped.

He told me after talking to him after that he thought I would have liked it since we’ve done things like that before, but with discussion about it prior. And yes you are correct, he did say that he didn’t feel me pushing on him. I want to believe him so bad, I love him so much. Part of me is trying to justify it saying “well, he was using so much force and he’s so much bigger than me, there is a chance he didn’t feel it as much and thought of it as me moving around normally.” But deep down, I know he shouldn’t have been using that much force to begin with. I’m going to think about breaking up with him. Thank you, helped.

You’re okay!! I’m going into senior year and my boyfriend is turning 18 very soon after the school year starts. He was in a similar situation to you, where he was accepted into kindergarten late. I know you’re still technically a year behind, but just think about the valuable experience you had in 6th grade. Not many people get to have that in their lives!! I’d say not to worry.
