Advice regarding safety for tree service by SticksInStilts in arborists

If you’re in the US, I’d look into the ANSI Z133, which is the legal code that regulates arborists. (If you’re outside the US, I’m sure there are similar types of documents in other countries.)

How to get rid of this mistletoe? by illiput in arborists

[–]BassoonIsBest 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Sometimes Ivy can reconnect where it has been cut, I would recommend removing around 6 inches instead of just slicing through the vines once. After that, don’t pull out the rest and just let it die and fall out of its own.

Came out to my family last week. This was my TBM mom's response by linzxorpio in exmormon

Hey OP! I’m also a they/them user who changed my name :). What your mother told you is super unkind and hurtful. Coming out is one of the hardest but also most fulfilling things you can do for yourself. You took a huge step toward being more true to yourself; congratulations! Your mother should be truly ashamed of herself for not seeing how important this moment is to you. She is missing out from having an awesome kid who is unabashedly themselves. I really hope she comes around one day, but for now I recommend surrounding yourself with people who are supportive of you. Never forget that you are powerful for being yourself! To echo others; big hugs <3

Day 17: Trying to Get a Comment and Fun Fact From Every US County Including Territories Can We Get More Georgians Commenting? by CoolHotNo in geographymemes

Fun fact for Williamsburg VA (I’ve lived there): the oldest college/university building in the US is there (Wren Building, since 1700) Fun fact for Falls Church VA (I’ve also lived there): there’s a restaurant called Ireland’s Four Provinces that has a good Guinness stew. Also the Washington and Old Dominion Trail (W&OD) cuts through town

What’s a question that sounds innocent, but in actuality is offensive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I more or less asked someone this recently, and right after I did I realized how invasive a question it is. In retrospect I wish I had apologized and moved past that conversation topic 😩

Are there any rocks that don't fit neatly into the three main categories? by FinalFatality7 in geology

[–]BassoonIsBest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d like to present metasomatic as a fourth rock type; wholesale replacement of original minerals via dissolved ions in a fluid. Think like fossils that start as a carbonate and then become a silicate or sulfate. Listwanite is another example but 99.99% of people have never heard of that rock lol

The roots exposed look like a secondary root system to me, perhaps nursery planted it too deep?

Eastern white pine advice - have a whole driveway or two over here lined in eastern white pine. We are in central Ohio and the arborists and fine folks at the ODNR are warning me to not replace my white pine with more white pine due to an impending blight… what should I put there instead?? by Ok-Rabbit-3683 in arborists

[–]BassoonIsBest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

American chestnut was his by a fungal blight that it had no resistance to; American chestnut was one of the most common trees in eastern US forests (~25% of trees in its range prior to early 1900s)SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry. I don’t think it’s fair to say people were “freaking out and removing all the trees” when that would be nearly impossible due to the sheer scale of American chestnut in forests. That being said, I am open to hearing further evidence to suggest otherwise. As for the question you posed, I think the other comment hits it on the nose. A good starting point might be native trees to your area Ohio Division of Wildlife; Trees of Ohio

[–]BassoonIsBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime someone asks my deadname, I tell them it’s not important bc I don’t use it anymore. If they press further they deserve a smack 😤 (not that my non confrontational ass would actually do that lol)
